La premiere fois que je l'ai vue, elle etait assise sur un trottoir de la rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs. Elle etait belle malgre sa detresse et je l'ai desiree. J'aurais pu ceder a la lachete commune et passer mon chemin. J'ai cede a la concupiscence et je l'ai abordee. Bien sur, elle m'a envoye paitre. La deuxieme fois, elle avait revendu ses vetements couteux et elle mendiait. L'aide que je lui avais proposee quelques semaines plus tot, elle l'acceptait desormais. J'aurais pu faire preuve de charite et lui tendre la main. J'ai cede a la lachete commune et passe mon chemin. Je me deteste et, entre deux maux, je choisis toujours le pire. C'est plus fort que moi. Ce que chacun s'evertue a cacher, sa part la plus vile, il faut que je l'explore. Je m'y emploie dans chacun de mes livres, repondant a l'implacable injonction de Celine: Noircir et se noircir. La haine de soi n'est pas a la portee de tout le monde. Mais, en la matiere, Emile Brami n'est pas un debutant. Il s'est depeint, tour a tour, sous les traits d'un pre-adolescent violeur (Histoire de la poupee, Ecriture, 2000), d'un peintre nonagenaire paranoiaque (Art brut, Ecriture, 2001), puis d'une lesbienne mechante et malheureuse (Le manteau de la Vierge, Fayard, 2007, Prix Mediterranee). Son entreprise se poursuit dans ce nouveau roman, le plus intime, car l'auteur s'y designe par son nom, et forcement le plus sombre.

Emile Brami est libraire d'ancien, specialiste de Celine. Il a egalement fonde les editions de La pince a linge, en hommage a celles qu'utilisait Celine pour suspendre ses chapitres, une fois acheves, dans son bureau. Mais Emile Brami est avant tout ecrivain, auteur de Rigor Mortis (Ecriture, 2002), Celine je ne suis pas assez mechant pour me donner en exemple (Ecriture, 2003), Celine, Herge et l'affaire Haddock (Ecriture, 2004), Histoire de la poupee (Ecriture, 2000), Art brut (Ecriture, 2001) et Le Manteau de la Vierge, prix Mediterranee (Fayard, 2007).
