About the Book

Dcode Colour Coding Vowels for Dyslexic Readers. This method of teaching struggling readers - in particular dyslexics, was developed by Mary Moran. Mary has been an Orton/Gillingham tutor for over 35 years. In the course of her work she discovered that attributing a specific colour to a vowel family greatly improved the students ability to remember and use the vowel sound, which in turn made them better readers. This program contains 8 workbooks in total. New skills acquired in consecutive books are built on those learned in the books that came before until the student's brain is programmed to read fluently and accurately. Helping the struggling dyslexic reader has been my passion for over 35 years. The right to an education is what every parent wants for their child and every child has a desire to read. When the ability to read happens after a struggle it is magical but the inability to read affects a child educationally, emotionally and mentally. Watching a struggling reader become a proficient one is one of the greatest gifts a teacher can be given. I have experienced it many times and I hope others will too. Mary Moran

Table of Contents:

About the Author :
My name is Mary Moran and I was born and raised in Galway, Ireland. When I started on this journey my greatest desire growing up was to own and work with horses - I did not end up in that line of work, but a mutual love of horses connected me with the person who would introduce me to the art of teaching struggling dyslexic readers. It has now been my passion for 35 years. Kate Weldin De Blois (now Kate Mc Mahon) had moved to Ireland from Boston for a more rural life. She had been training teachers in the Orton / Gillingham discipline and assumed she could continue that work in Ireland. Unfortunately the educational system in Ireland failed to see her value as she tried to revolutionize the teaching of dyslexic readers on her own. She was always swimming against the current. I participated in one of Kate's training programs - little did I realize at the time that it would become one of the most important parts of my life and my passion. Over those 35 years I have taught thousands of children - some funny and mischievious - some quiet and shy, but I loved them all equally. I sat with parents in tears and listened to teacher's exasperation when frustrated children started acting out in class. My program has been hugely successful while tutoring these children. I have decided to put my lessons into workbook form in the hope that it will become the go-to resource when remediating struggling readers within the school system. Although my initial training was Orton / Gillingham I have developed my own program stemming from it. This program uses colour to program the brain and my hope is that it will make the teaching of struggling readers much clearer and easier.
