About the Book

Cancer patients and their care givers will find relatable companionship in John Kuby's tongue cancer memoir "No Quit in Me".

John's story reveals his gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, and yet somehow upliftingly wild ride with tongue cancer. He invites us into his life as he discovers, deals with, and overcomes this life-altering illness. We see his 'No Quit' attitude in action and feel everything he feels.

His willingness to be vulnerable and openly discuss both his physical and emotional experiences makes for compelling reading. As a patient, you will feel camaraderie as you follow John's journey and compare it with your own. As a caregiver, this first-hand account will help you see and support the 'No Quit' attitude in your loved one.

New update section reveals the impact of John's radiation treatments three years on

John's book captures the complex issues and many of the day to day challenges confronting patients, their families, friends, and particularly spouses.

This is a cathartic read. It will touch your heart and make you cry, but John's lightness and humour will also make you smile and laugh. Most importantly, it will show you what it means to be a 'No Quitter'

"WOW! No Quit in me captures exactly the thoughts, feelings and experiences I went through four years ago with the same cancer. I wish I could have read this to know what to expect. It would have been so helpful."

  • Lee Sowell, Tongue Cancer Survivor

"No Quit in me" is an important resource for patients with newly diagnosed head and neck cancer. John's graphic story that details his cancer journey, pulling no punches as he describes the morbidity associated with chemotherapy and radiation. Despite the hardships he endured, John's story is an inspiration. I continue to recommend it to my patients and I write the blog/web site address on everyone's new patient booklet. About the Author :
John Kuby is a survivor. Long before surviving tongue cancer, John survived two brushes with bankruptcy while building a successful business selling playground equipment. He had also experienced two divorces before finding Linda, his beloved wife of 25 years. Together, they raised and launched four successful "Brady Bunch" kids. Having sold the business, John and Linda are now happily retired and living on Vancouver Island, Canada. John writes, travels, and in his 70's is still mountain biking and snowboarding. There is no Quit in John Kuby.

Review :

This narrative of courage that will help others in their cancer survival crusade just as it has given Kuby profound perspective on his own. An undercurrent of self deprecation and overlay of humour adds to this book's appeal. - Janet Dunnett - author of "The Dwindling: A Daughter's Caregiving Journey to the Edge of Life

John's raw and authentic account of his tongue cancer experience is told with humour, and compassion. Health care providers will be recommending his book as an inspiration for patient engagement. " - Lynda Brown - CEO, Curatio Networks, inc.

When you read this book you will laugh, you will cry, and it keeps you right there with John and Linda through out his wild ride with tongue cancer. We all could use a little of the mountain bike rider's rule #5" in our lives! "Harden the F__k up." - M'darla Dawson - dental receptionist

John is not only an inspiring cancer recovery patient. He is a potential talented motivational coach. His sincere approach to suffering opens a door for others." - Catherine Beeckman-Delen - Author of "Pearls Around the Neck"

All baby boomers have either experienced cancer themselves or in their families and friends - but most don't have the courage and ability to write their story. I am sure John's blog and writing was cathartic for him but it is much more than that. It will inspire each and every one of us readers to reinforce in yourself that "quitting is not an option". - Mike Evans - Landscape Architect

Whether you are the fighter, the caregiver, family or a friend, this book will let you know you are not alone and your thoughts & feelings are normal. This book is a rare, important, glimpse into the mind & heart of the person who is fighting the cancer fight." - Jay Nadler - mountain biker/ skier

I found "No Quit in Me" a compelling read and would 100% recommend it for patients with tongue cancer, their caregivers, and anyone who is interested in a story of personal victory over unexpected circumstances." - Elaine Hall - book club member

"No Quit in Me" is an eye-opening book that I have recommended to many of my oncology coworkers. - Kyle Ganton (Radiation Oncology Receptionist 13 years and counting)

Anyone treating patients with this type of cancer, in any capacity, should consider this as a mandatory reference for their patients. Quite simply, oropharyngeal and tongue cancer patients need to read this book."- Dr. Ian Thornton, DDS, MSc, Dip Prostho. FRCD
