About the Book

Lydia desperately misses her older brother, Timothy, since he left for college. Besides her grandmother's dog, Rhino, who isn't always the best listener, Timothy was the only one who could cheer her up after she was bullied at school. One stormy night, Lydia has a strange dream: she is walking down a hallway and hears a cry for help. After opening a mysterious door, Lydia finds and rescues an oddly dressed stranger. Emory, it turns out, is from the magical land of Wilderbourne. In trouble, he has been searching for a hero, and he's convinced it's Lydia. She's shocked but eager to assist-it's only a dream, after all!-and agrees to go with him. When they arrive at Trestlerock Castle, however, Lydia quickly realizes that her dream is real-and the realm is in grave danger. As the royal cupbearer, Emory unknowingly allowed Princess Ethelrang XXI to be poisoned. Without the cure, an enemy kingdom ruled by the Shadow Prince will try to conquer the realm. While still doubtful that she's the hero they're looking for, Lydia is determined to help-even if that means embarking on a difficult and dangerous quest unlike anything she's ever faced.
