About the Book

Can the Mistress of Whispers find an unholy thief?

Former kitchen maid Bronwyn Blakenhale is already uncomfortable with her new role as Mistress of Whispers in Queen Matilda's court, but when a noblewoman plays a mean trick on her, Bronwyn is even more eager to leave.

She hopes to escape her new status and return home to Lincoln by joining a band of pilgrims, but when that nefarious noblewoman decides to join them with a sob story about a jealous admirer, Bronwyn knows there is a plot afoot.

Home is the not the site of the happy reunion she was hoping for. Her family is nowhere to be found, their bakery now run by her former childhood friend. Between bandits, armed monks, poisoners, and stolen holy relics, Bronwyn doesn't seem to have a moment's peace. When rumors fly about the relic's curse and a nobleman is murdered, Bronwyn cannot hide in the kitchens anymore.

She must take on the mantle of Mistress of Whispers and find who is behind these crimes, if she is to accept that she is not just a kitchen maid, but a sleuth too.
