About the Book

In a world where being born a mutant is a crime, genomes lose all their rights and are forced into greenzones for the protection of humanity. There, they struggle to survive in the over-built ghettos called the blocks that are ruled by the mutant gangs. Humans view all genomes as super villains waiting to happen, and every time a genome gets fed up with the abuse, starvation and fighting for scraps in the greenzone and lashes out... they prove the humans right. The only way out is to serve the greater good for 5 years without using your powers to prove you are not a threat to humanity and earn your citizenship. Greenzone: Life In The Blocks follows the first shift of a group of new recruits to the police G-unit, where genomes police their own kind in the greenzone. Viewed as nothing more than mall cops by the humans and race traitors by the genomes, it is a no-win situation.
We meet characters like Virgil, who looks like an 8' tall lizard monster. He grew up alone as an orphan being tormented by the gang that runs his block. His only power is that he looks much scarier than he is, and when in danger he shoots blood out of his eyes. The only thing he hates more than the cops is living in the disgusting blocks, so he is ready to risk his life navigating the corrupt police force, fighting the mutant gangs, and a world that only sees him as a monster for he chance to claw his way out of the Greenzone.
His training officer Danny Kim has had a very different life. He looks like any other Korean guy, if it weren't for the green stripes marking him as a genome on his uniform no one would know. His father Sgt. Kim is a career police officer and the G-unit commanding officer. Danny grew up in the suburbs outside the Greenzone because of his father's citizenship, and can pass in and out without issue because of his human looks. Always joking and running his mouth, Danny has never had to take things very seriously... his dad is his boss, he CAN' T get fired. Kind hearted and easy going, Danny doesn't realize how privileged his life has been compared to Virgil' s.
William Brooks also grew up in the suburbs in an integrated school due to his father's citizenship. Tall, and strong, he was quarterback of the football team. His purple fur and beautiful long horns made him stand out in a crowd and very popular. He always gives 110% and believes there is nothing he can't do if he works hard enough. His illusions are immediately shattered when for no reason a pair of human guards take an angle grinder and cut off his beautiful horns, scarring him for life. Bellamy is a 5' tall 90lb wisp of a woman covered head to toe in razor sharp quills. A " late bloomer" she was a normal human about to graduate college when her body hair started turning into quills. She instantly lost her citizenship and all her rights, she was disowned by her family, and now must come to terms with her new life. With no experience around genomes, she is often awkward, and hasn't learned that the world now sees her as one of the terrifying monsters she has always feared.
Follow them on their first shift as they tackle mutant gangs, get arrested by human cops, and their police station is bombed by a mutant terrorist... just another day in the Greenzone.
