About the Book

Demons hide amongst the light, and the shadows are alive. Jean Cassy has always had bad luck- being curseborn brings misfortune, and hers is only getting worse. When her cousin falls ill, she takes it as a sign to leave for Blackrock in order to assist her family. But her plans shatter when she contracts chittering madness- a disease with only two outcomes: amputation or death. Now with this dangerous secret, Jean accepts a position assisting a reclusive researcher known as Popcorn. Yet his work hides darker truths, and as she is drawn deeper into his world, she realizes the dangers she faces are far greater than she imagined. With secrets closing in, and death at her heels, Jean must fight to endure. Because in a world where hope is dying, survival is the only thing that matters. Phantom in the Dark is a clean dark fantasy filled with danger, mystery, and the struggle for survival. Some themes may be intense for sensitive readers. Note for eBook Readers: The print edition of Phantom in the Dark includes illustrated journal pages with artwork and handwritten-style notes. Due to formatting limitations on e-readers, these visual elements are not included in the digital edition. The story remains fully intact and immersive, but for the complete illustrated experience, we recommend the paperback version.

About the Author :
Ellie Lerum is a prolific fantasy author based in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, she has carved a niche for herself in the genre of fantastical literature. Her love for writing, reading and blogging is evident in her captivating storytelling. With a dedicated passion for creating otherworldly realms and characters, Ellie has become a figure in the fantasy literary community. Alongside her husband/illustrator Phillip, Ellie has developed the land of Illeross. In this world, magic, miracles, monsters, and missions are combined to showcase an in-depth, enchanting, world where most anything is possible. A devout Christian, Ellie's faith has been a guiding force in her writing journey. She draws strength from her beliefs to tackle sensitive topics with empathy and grace, including her personal experiences with pregnancy and miscarriage. Many of her works place an emphasis on anxiety, grief, depression, pregnancy/child loss, and the difficulties that life brings regardless of status or privilege. Through her writing, Ellie aims to offer solace and hope to readers who may be facing similar challenges. After losing her first pregnancy, Ellie was shocked to see how society treated the concept of miscarriage. While some banded around her, others offered attempted words of hope or simply turned away from the topic. Feeling alone and isolated, Ellie became severely depressed. Working through these emotions with the pregnancy of her first daughter, Ellie realized that she was unwilling to let other families experience the devastation of pregnancy loss alone. Coupled with her personal battles with depression and anxiety, Ellie began to write. Now, Jean Cassy and the Phantom in the Dark, her first book, has brought numerous thanks from other women who felt isolated through their own times of grieving. When she is not advocating for more conversations about hard topics, Ellie enjoys spending her free time with her family and exploring the great outdoors. She finds inspiration in the natural beauty of Idaho. Her dedication to her craft and her unwavering faith in God continue to shape her work, making her a truly unique voice in the world of fantasy literature. Ellie is currently working as a blogger in Idaho Falls while maintaining her published works and her small homestead.
