About the Book

"Reads like grief, gaslight, and haunting folded into the same shadow."
-Early Reviewer

No one warned Gabriella that some houses don't wait for you to believe in them. The oldest home on the street stands apart from every other house around it. Darker. Quieter. Untouched by time. Gabriella never wanted to live there, but when her husband announces they've found their new home, she has little choice except to follow.

At first, the house is merely unsettling.

A door stands open after she knows she closed it. Familiar rooms feel subtly wrong. Footsteps linger just beyond hearing. The silence begins to feel less like emptiness... and more like attention. Her husband insists she's exhausted. Stressed. Imagining things. With no friends nearby and no family to turn to, Gabriella starts to wonder if he's right.

Until the house begins answering thoughts she never speaks aloud.

A cautious friendship with a neighbor offers a fragile lifeline, but by then the cracks in reality have spread too far. Memories no longer agree with the evidence around her. Conversations seem to change after they've happened. Even the truth becomes difficult to recognize.

Because something inside the house has been watching Gabriella from the moment she crossed its threshold. And it has been waiting for her to doubt herself. The Kindness of Shadows is a slow-burning psychological horror novel where domestic isolation, manipulation, and the supernatural intertwine, leaving readers questioning whether the greatest evil lives within the walls... or inside the people we trust most.

Perfect for readers of Shirley Jackson, Sarah Waters, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and psychological gothic fiction that lingers long after the final page.

"A slow, intelligent dread that seeps in sentence by sentence. This novel doesn't chase fear-it waits for it."
-Early Reader

I think the strongest change is shifting the emphasis from "Is Gabriella losing her mind?" to "Who-or what-is rewriting her reality?" That creates a much stronger psychological hook while preserving the ambiguity that makes the novel intriguing.
