About the Book

When Archie McClure bought Belle Oak, nobody wanted it. Now, everyone wants it. He turned Belle Oak into five thousand acres of the finest rice ground in Arkansas and the best duck woods in the country. But Belle Oak is in trouble. Archie's grandsons, Little George, J.D., and Trip own McClure Tug and Tow, a once thriving, now failing, barge company on the Mississippi. Trip's brothers want to sell Belle Oak to save the barge company, but he won't hear of it. All he cares about is hunting in the flooded timber with Cash, his black lab. Ceila McClure, the boys' mother, is caught in the middle, recently widowed when her husband took his own life. She's the only one who knows why he did it, except for the blackmailer. When Little George and J.D. put Belle Oak up for sale, Trip takes matters in his own hands. His plan to keep Belle Oak spins out of control, and he makes a Faustian bargain to save it. The flooded timber is full of lies and treachery. The deal goes bad. His mother's secret is expensive, and someone is trying to kill Trip. Can he find a way out?

Review :
"In Cutter's thriller, a man under extraordinary financial pressure is pulled into a dark, criminal world. This is an engrossing work-the sinewy and lean prose produces a kind of spare poetry. An absorbing story, moving and uncompromising." -Kirkus Reviews "In a change of venue from the legal thrillers he is so well known for, Cutter takes us on a journey without lawyers but with plenty of intrigue and business that is as dirty as the famous " dirty rice " in Arkansas duck country." -Steve Pruett, executive chairman, Cox Media Group "Buckle up for a page-turning ride as Cutter takes you on a tale of twists and turns, shocking discoveries, and family intrigue in the rice fields and flooded timber of Arkansas. Treachery, betrayal, family secrets, and murder. You won't be able to put it down." -Leland Bassett, chairman, Bassett Entertainment Group "Set on the finest rice ground in America with the best duck hunting in the world, Cutter's new novel The Hangman's Blind is a fast-paced mystery as well as a literary classic-to-be. In The Hangman's Blind, Cutter delivers again, blending his keen observations on everything from bird dogs to good cigars and memorable bourbons with insights into why we value places sometimes more than people. There is truth in his fiction that cuts to the quick." -Glen Young, Bear River Literary Guild "Well-crafted with clever turns of phrase, a raw Southern landscape, and a gritty cast of characters, The Hangman's Blind is a study in the dark floodwaters of evil swallowing the well-intentioned." -Ben Beversluis, retired editor, The Grand Rapids Press "In the tradition of Weeds, Breaking Bad and Arkansas noir, Charles Cutter's The Hangman's Blind will keep you guessing until the very last page. A complex mystery by a talented and prolific writer." -Bill Castanier, The Lansing City Pulse
