About the Book

Ex-NBA star-turned private detective Elgin O'Brien loves jazz, justice, and a sweet jumper from the top of the key. When the father of a star player at college basketball powerhouse St. Stephen's asks O'Brien to look into the shooting death of his son outside of a Manhattan nightclub, O'Brien puts on a full-court press to find the perpetrator. What O'Brien uncovers turns out to be more insidious than a mugging or a neighborhood beef. The deeper O'Brien looks at the St. Stephen's basketball program and his long-time nemesis, Coach Chris Corsito, the more suspects and corruption he uncovers, revealing a system where the only thing that matters is winning, no matter who gets hurt, or how, or why. Inspired by real-life events and contemporary issues plaguing collegiate sports, Flagrant Fouls is a fast-paced, classic, first-person detective novel from two authors with unique insight into the game. It'll keep readers guessing until the final buzzer.

About the Author :
Richard O'Connor is a former high school All-American basketball player, Duke University standout and, briefly, a professional basketball player, who later became an award-winning journalist. O'Connor has written for dozens of legacy magazines. This is his fourth book. Glenn Stout is the author or editor of more than 100 books, most notably his biography of Trudy Ederle, Young Woman and the Sea, now an award-winning film from Disney, and the Jazz Age true crime yarn, Tiger Girl and the Candy Kid.

Review :
Praise for Flagrant Fouls "Readers should know that this book is the product of two veteran and outstanding sports writers, who bring to this tale experience, knowledge and the storytelling skills to make it credible and highly readable." -John Hanc, author of The Coolest Race on Earth: Mud, Madmen, Glaciers and Grannies at at the Antarctica Marathon "You'll be glad you read Flagrant Foul, and sad, too. Authors O'Connor and Stout are the Frazier and Monroe of noir detective novels, Flagrant Foul is a must-read." -Charlie Bulter, co-author of The Long Run: A New York City Firefighter's Triumphant Comeback from Crash Victim to Elite Athlete "In Flagrant Fouls, protagonist Elgin O'Brien is a basketball-spinning, jazz-loving, case-cracking private eye who drives his 1989 royal blue Ford Mustang convertible like Clyde the Glide once did down the lane in Madison Square Garden, on a quest for his own Maltese Falcon."-John Glionna, author of Outback Nevada "Probing the dark underbelly of sports to solve his case, ex-NBA player turned private investigator Elgin O'Brien could well be the bastard child of Chinatown's Jake Gittes, relocated to the wilds of Hoboken." -Brin-Jonathan Butler, author of The Domino Diaries Praise For Richard O'Connor's Memoir: Taking A Shot "A moving coming-of-age of-age-memoir about a kid who made a tough decision, took risks, faced challenges, and wound up scoring big points in life." -Hubie Brown, NBA Hall of Fame Coach "O'Connor's beautifully written book is about paths taken and not taken. From dreaming of being on the cover of Sports Illustrated to seeing his byline in the same magazine, he shares life lessons in perfect prose." -Ben Guest, author of Zen and the Art of Coaching Basketball Praise for Glenn Stout "Great storytelling . . . Stout's moving book [Young Woman and the Sea] recovers the exhilarating story of a young girl who found her true self out in the water and paved the way for women in sports today." -Publishers Weekly Tiger Girl and the Candy Kid is a "Rip-roaring account of the Jazz Age's most-feared gangster couple... Stout's fast-paced prose has a Mickey Spillane-like cadence to it that fits his subject matter perfectly... A compulsively readable criminal biography as well as a vivid cultural snapshot of early Prohibition-era America." -Kirkus Reviews "It's hard to have faith until you read Nine Months at Ground Zero. Are there any heroes left? The answer is a resounding yes in this beautiful and poignant, and important book." -Buzz Bissinger, author of Three Nights in August
