Review :
James Eade's vividly detailed memoir about his struggles to maintain his sobriety in comfort provides insights, cautions, and hope to the millions of recovering addicts embarking on their own journeys towards fulfilling, sober lives. Mel Thrash, M.D. James clearly explains his spiritual path and "what works for him" in recovery. This positive, helpful, and personal book will encourage others in doing the same. The chapters in Freedom are human, believable, and original. His gifted writing doesn't just talk about, but conveys the sense of freedom the title expresses. Enthusiastic thumbs up. An AA Member When a person in recovery takes the time to explain his path out of addiction, it's a gift to those of us who want to understand. D'Anne Burwell Author, Saving Jake: When Addiction Hits Home A story of recovery and about recovery. A book of hope, and hopeful possibilities for each and every addict. Yudhisthira Doug Andrews Co-leader, Yoga and the 12 Steps The central, positive message full of hope in James Eade's book, Freedom: Your Path to Recovery needs to reach all who experience addiction and all medical and mental health professionals who work with them. That message: there are different communities, methods, and practices available to meet the recovery needs of different people. Jim generously, openly, and clearly tells his story, from the roots of his life-threatening addiction to finding his path to recovery. Along the way, he participates in different approaches to addiction, learning that "The path to finding freedom is up to the individual." Jim describes in easy-to-understand ways how his journey helped him to reconcile contemporary life with ancient wisdom, and spiritual sensibilities with scientific thinking. Jim's path also uncovered that mercy and forgiveness (toward self and others) can lead to peace and calm, a valuable lesson for all of us trying to cope with life's successes and failures, hopes and disappointments, frustrations and joys. Mary Coakley-Welch, Ph.D. Licensed Psychologist, Neuropsychologist Eade has written an important book on coping with addiction. He writes with precision, passion, and panache. Eade is a good read. Tim Redman, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Literary Studies, The University of Texas at Dallas
