About the Book

Unplugging the Robot is a story about taking a break from technology and reconnecting with the outside world. It highlights the importance of real life bonds with family and friends. Reminding children to put down their tablets and notice the beauty beyond their screens will help them navigate life with confidence, social awareness, and better consideration for the world and people around them. Though it isn't always easy, finding a healthy balance between utilizing modern technology and living a present life is very important. Moderation is key. A good place to start is monitoring screen time and making sure that it is not greater than time spent outside or in social settings. Finding this balance is important for everyone-not just kids! Sometimes, we all need the reminder that life exists beyond our screens. What we see on the internet isn't always reflective of real life. Between curated content presenting the illusion of perfection, heavily edited images, and fabricated AI content, we are bombarded with false narratives that have the potential to make us question our self-worth and the value of our own realities. The internet is also home to manipulative algorithms that can breed division, cruelty, and conflict. It takes strict levels of awareness and discernment to navigate the influx of information, and if we aren't careful, we can find ourselves lost in negative doom scrolls or arguing with strangers in comment sections. It is important to be aware of what's going on, but the only way to control the negativity is to remove yourself from its reach. Disconnecting from the digital realm and reconnecting to the real world is how we regain control of our lives. No more hiding behind doom scrolls. No more chasing make believe online. We are not robots. We are humans. And it's time we start living that way.
