About the Book

The world can be a pretty unsettled place, and children are bound to overhear adult conversations. All those big adult worries become their worries, too. They might wonder, what does all this change mean for them? This is a tale about Little Drop, fearful about her journey through the water cycle. As she evolves and overcomes challenges, she builds reliance and even begins to enjoy what each new day brings. Momma Moon in the story is the trusted guide in a child's life who provides comfort and reassurance. Reflective questions are embedded in the book to help a child explore with their own Momma Moon a deeper understanding of their thoughts and feelings. The intended audience not only includes children, but also parents, therapists, and teachers who can use the questions throughout the book to help children open up about their own unspoken feelings. The author's hope is that children will discover their "sparkle" and learn how to face future changes with hope and confidence.

About the Author :
Dr. Lucido has practiced as a clinical psychologist in Detroit and northern Michigan since 2003. He also holds master's degrees in child psychology and clinical psychopharmacology. His best friend and wife, Dr. Melissa Makowski, has been the love of his life ever since the fifth grade. They have many fur-friends like Helios, Cash, and Circe. Their daughter Carmela is a brilliant, brave little drop. She inspired this story through her persistent requests to hear "Dada's bedtime story about a little drop." It was his hope it would help her understand the ever-changing events which occurred throughout the pandemic. Dr. Lucido believed the water cycle was an inspirational symbol for life's journey, and water reflects the vital role that it plays in sustaining life. Keep shining as their moon and they will keep sparkling. Illustrator Patty Clark, MA The illustrator, Patty Clark, is a licensed counselor with a level IV clinical infant mental health endorsement. Review :
"Michael Lucido and Patty Clark have combined their considerable creative talents and deep understanding of children to produce a beautiful children's book. The lushly illustrated story of Little Drop is designed to help school-aged children master the challenge of changes that they increasingly encounter in today's world. It is especially suited for sensitive, verbal children who enjoy using their imagination to deal with developmental issues. The discussion guidelines for parents aid in making Little Drop a unique shared experience." -Gregory Fritz, MD, Brown University Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Human Behavior "Little Drop is perfect for a home, educational, or therapeutic setting, giving encouragement to trust and believe in oneself to get through life's challenges...lessons in resiliency. It offers safety in being vulnerable, supporting growth in emotional intelligence, compassion, empathy, and bravery. The charming dance between the story, whimsical illustrations, and the reflective questions, allows a natural therapeutic process to unfold through attuning to, honoring, and normalizing our feelings. Healing unfolds within the relationship!" -Stacey Parent, M, Ed, Mental Health & Family Engagement Manger, NMCAA Head Start "This is a wonderful and wise book for parents and therapists to read to children about their experience of growing up. It depicts, through the metaphor of the water cycle, how life is a natural learning and developing experience with great beauty and meaning for those who are trusting of it. The beautiful illustrations fit the story perfectly. The pauses for reflection give gentle opportunity for self-reflection and creative problem solving. It is well worth having in any family as a very helpful psychotherapy tool to reduce the anxiety that children naturally experience about growing up. And it also gives the opportunity to help traumatized children see that there will be more turns at transformation that will come their way to give them opportunity to grow up well after all." -Marit Vogel, MD, MSBA, Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
