About the Author :
RAJEEV RONANKI is an executive and technologist in the healthcare space. Senior vice president and chief digital officer at Anthem—an innovation leader dedicated to improving health and probably best known for its affiliated health plans—Ronanki is transforming Anthem into an “AI-first” digital company that can better serve its forty million members. Prior to joining Anthem, Rajeev was a partner at Deloitte Consulting, where he led various technology innovation initiatives related to healthcare. Ronanki holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Osmania University in India and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania. Review :
Rajeev Ronanki has always been interested in technology. As a child in India, he was fascinated by the futuristic technology in science fiction. But now that modern technology has delivered affordable cell phones that are indistinguishable if not superior to the once-futuristic handheld communicators featured in Star Trek, as well as other technological marvels, far-fetched technology no longer seems quite so speculative or out of reach. The march of innovative technology has been accelerating for decades. Exponential technologies are now transforming science fiction into science fact. Innovative enterprises, and not just tech companies, are developing and deploying tomorrow’s innovations today. Nowhere is this needed more than in the healthcare industry, where forward-thinking digital-first companies can use AI, blockchain, big data processing, and other exponential technologies to solve the problems of today as well as those of tomorrow. Rajeev had me at You and AI—a title that personifies the deeply personal, very human experience we are all collectively having with technologies that are changing and shaping our world, that are designed to improve our lives, our healthcare encounters, and our relationships with healthcare organizations. In his conversational style, Rajeev explains why our understanding and relationship with AI as citizens and consumers is fundamental and critical as we consider and ensure our rights and responsibilities in a world heavily assisted and guided by AI, alongside its good friend blockchain. He also explains the inevitability of our reliance on technology and data to solve the growing complexity in healthcare and clearly defines that to achieve health outcomes that are improved, inclusive, and equitable it requires an equally hefty dose of proactive human care, participation, and intelligence. Rajeev leads readers through the questions, complexities, breakthroughs, and concerns that prepare us as citizens to interact with AI and blockchain and puzzle together the future of healthcare. The title really says it all, and Rajeev’s skilled storytelling is an enticing invitation to be one of the main characters! —Shawna Butler, RN, MBA; Nurse economist; Managing director, Exponential Medicine; Host, See You Now podcast If you’ve ever wondered what people mean by the “art of the possible” and how companies can turn innovation into business success, look no further. You and AI is the practical guide we all need to build the AI-first organization. —Erica Dhawan, Author, Digital Body Language Ronanki lays out a clear, compelling, and realistic vision for how AI and blockchain can transform healthcare. He also describes what’s already happening today with these technologies. There is no better guide to this complex set of behavioral, policy, and economic issues than You and AI. —Thomas H. Davenport, Distinguished professor, Babson College; visiting professor, Oxford University; Fellow, MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy; Senior advisor, Deloitte AI; Author, The AI Advantage; Competing on Analytics Rajeev Ronanki, a problem solver and engineer, walks us through how AI will take our health into a “Star Trek-like future.” Twenty years ago, the Star Trek communicator went from a science fiction idea to a real device that fit in our pockets. Now, Rajeev and Anthem, Inc. want to put the entire Sickbay, Star Trek’s medical center, into our pockets too. A lover of puzzles and problem solving, Rajeev is tackling his biggest challenge yet—the US healthcare system—and he’s armed with effective AI and backed by an innovation leader dedicated to improving health. Just as Elon Musk used digital technologies to transform what was possible in aerospace and transportation, Rajeev is doing the same for human health and medicine. —Andrew Hessel, Founder, Humane Genomics, Inc.; Chairman, Genome Project-Write
