About the Book

Feeling different is not unusual for youngsters. This imaginative children's book is about a clever bird who felt different and alone - that is, until his shadow convinced him otherwise. An engaging, highly visual tale about a likable great blue heron encourages children to celebrate what makes them unique, treasure their relationships, and value differences. Hero's journey is one of discovery that invites children to find the hero in themselves and look for the hero in others.

About the Author :
An avid wildlife photographer, Jan fell in love with a great blue heron she named Heronymus and, with her camera, she captured his best angles, his shadows, and his friends. With her four grandchildren in mind, she recruited storyteller Richard Skaare and, together, they visualized and wrote a tale that stirs the imagination and inspires heroism among readers and listeners. Richard spent his career as a corporate communicator and his life listening to and telling stories. A worldwide traveler, avocational writer and photographer, and a grandfather, Richard was taken by Jan Williams' photographs of Heronymus Heron and joined her to create the fun story of a bird who realized that being different does not stop you from becoming a hero. Step 2 Branding and Design

Review :
Tom Leigh, long-time illustrator of Sesame Street and Muppet books, says ..."The story of Heronymus is clever, warm and engaging and encourages children to think about their world in a very different way. It also brings them closer to the natural world as they get to know and appreciate Hero.A wonderful book."

"You Gotta Love Heronymus! For all the Heronymus Herons out there, it's time to claim your individual hero and dance to your heart's content! When you do, you'll be surprised to see who follows. The story is appealing; the photos are perfectly taken and perfectly chosen for each page. Patricia Perry, Clinical Psychologist

Our son, age 8, loves this story - he's an avid "bird guy" - it covers a lot of themes he is learning in school: building friendships, accepting others, feeling "othered," finding your tribe. AND it has "real birds" vs. cartoons. He liked connecting feelings to real animals. A cute, wonderful book. Kate Crosby, Science Marketing

"This delightful children's book has become my coffee table book. I turn to it often to enjoy the charming photos and to slip momentarily into a simpler world with Hero and his pals. I bought it for my grandchildren, but I'm keeping this copy and ordering them another one!"

Susie Griggs Green, Teacher

We purchased this book for our grandchildren (ages 5, 7, and 10) and for ourselves! It is wonderful. The story is well-written and has a moral without being heavy-handed about it. The photographs are exceptional Great reading (and looking at) experience regardless of one's age. Tommy Rockford

WHAT A BLESSING to read during the current reality. I didn't expect to have anything to smile about today. I SMILED AND SMILED AND SMILED! The diversity theme! The community! WOW! When I see my nephew, we are going to DANCE AND DANCE AND DANCE TOGETHER! THANK YOU HERO! Ann Carr, Organization Consultant

This book was recommended for its superb illustration and photography, but I quickly realized that its message and the approachability of its writing make it even more valuable! My son and daughter-in-law, both education professionals, love the book, and the grandkids have made it a bedtime "requirement." Easily 5-stars.Wayne J Desbrow, Marketing Communication Consultant, grandfather I loved the storyline, photos, and how Heronymus discovered himself. This book is not just for kids but a lesson for all to live by. It is my coffee table book for all to see.Linda Horne, Business Owner
