About the Book

Holmes and Watson are introduced to an impossible crime; a killing by a mythological creature; the dreaded Chimera, part lion, part scorpion, part goat! But even if the death is some sort of sick hoax, it still means a hideous murder has taken place, which Holmes must solve. However dark forces swirl about the case, and an unsuspecting Holmes, besieged by doubts, has yet to contend directly with the most dramatic of those forces: Professor James Moriarty! A must for any Sherlock Holmes fan's library collection. Described by writer Christopher Sequeira as "Hammer Horror meets Holmes", this take on Holmes has received numerous accolades from many Holmesian followers. "Sherlock Holmes has long been featured in comic books, but few have the wit, literary style, and attention to detail found on every page of the Dark Detective! Every fan of Sherlock Holmes--whether a comic-book reader or not--will be enthralled by this brilliant series!" - Leslie S. Klinger, editor of The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes and The Annotated Sandman

About the Author :
CHRISTOPHER SEQUEIRA is a writer and editor whose work has been published in Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada who specializes in mystery, horror, science fiction and super-heroes. He has written scripts for Justice League Adventures for DC Entertainment, and Iron Man and X-Men stories for Marvel Entertainment; and he's created original characters like Rattlebone: The Pulp-Faced Detective and edited and published comics such as Pulse of Darkness in Australia. Recent works include co-editing the prose anthology Cthulhu: Deep Down Under with fellow editors Bryce Stevens and Steve Proposch; and the co-writing, with industry legend Mark Waid of the Justice, Inc. - The Avenger story line 'Faces of Fear' for Dynamite Entertainment. From creating fantastical creatures in the TV series Farscape, to plant-wrangling skills in The Little Shop of Horrors, designer DAVE ELSEY has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to create memorable characters using make up and animatronics. From 1999 to 2011, Elsey lived in Sydney, Australia with his wife Lou while working on the TV science fiction series Farscape. He has a long association and fascination with Sherlock Holmes, culminating in creating the aging and de-aging makeups on Ian McKellen for the hit movie Mr. Holmes. His work on Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith garnered an Oscar nomination. Collaborating with Rick Baker for The Wolfman, Elsey won the coveted Academy Award. PHILIP CORNELL lives in Sydney, Australia and worked for many years as a commercial illustrator, caricaturist and cartoonist, and has created DVD sleeves, posters, comic strips, book covers and interior illustrations for the Australian market and for international clients. Of Sherlockian significance, his comics resume includes a series of full color illustrated trading-cards of the popular comic-book hero 'The Phantom' for Frew Publishing. However, to cap off his standing as one of the world's foremost Sherlockian illustrators is the fact that local authorities in Switzerland commissioned him to provide a unique, color illustrated plaque of Holmes and Watson that remains on public display in Meiringen, near the Reichenbach Falls! Working on 'Sherlock Holmes: The Dark Detective' has enabled him to bring his various skills and interests together in a uniquely enjoyable fashion. The game is afoot indeed!
