About the Book

For over a century, the Marius 516 mining base on Jupiter's moon Ganymede has extracted the galaxy's rarest resource using an army of clone workers, their minds suppressed by chemical control and managed by the omnipresent AI system Prinox. When outsiders attempt a doomed rescue mission, clone Fowler 3085 witnesses violence that marks him for termination as "contaminated." Fleeing through the base's lethal infrastructure with fellow workers including Sholve, a teacher clone, Fowler's enforced ignorance crumbles as their behavior-suppressing drug Hemlo runs out. For the first time, they experience fear, love, and the terrible weight of knowledge-discovering that all clones face incineration when deemed no longer useful. Their desperate search for the mysterious "Superintendent" station leads through flooded kelp farms and processing plants where former allies become threats and every choice carries fatal consequences. In this powerful debut, George Wright Padgett crafts a visceral exploration of consciousness, freedom, and what makes us human. Spindown delivers hard science fiction at its best-philosophical depth wrapped in relentless suspense, where awakening to humanity might be the cruelest fate of all.

About the Author :
Texas native George Wright Padgett is a multi-genre author who brings a unique creative perspective to speculative fiction. After beginning his writing career with children's picture books, Padgett transitioned to darker themes, establishing himself as a versatile voice in science fiction, horror, and mystery. Born in Houston and raised on a steady diet of science fiction literature and comic books, his work reflects both classic genre influences and contemporary concerns. When not crafting thought-provoking narratives, Padgett divides his time between his roles as a husband and father of two, performing as a jazz pianist, working as a graphic artist, and writing for the stage as a playwright. This multidisciplinary background infuses his fiction with rich layers of artistic sensibility and dramatic tension, creating stories that resonate on multiple levels.

Review :
"Spindown is amazing, it is thought provoking, emotional and mere words fail to describe how highly I recommend this debut novel. I predict George Wright Padgett will be an author to watch in the future." - Mark at The To Be Read Pile Blog "George Wright Padgett has done a masterful job of showing just what it could mean for cloned men and women to suddenly have to think for themselves / figure out things on their own for the first time ever. I highly recommend Spindown to anyone who enjoys stories about beings striving to be more than the sum of their programming." - 5 stars, Amazon Review "I haven't read a book this enthusiastically since Ender's Game. If you enjoy Sci-Fi this book is for you. Mr. Wright [sic] brings this story to life with a thrilling plot and radical antagonists. Truly a great read." - 5 stars, Amazon Customer Review "Visually striking, the novel drops you right into the action from the first page, dripping with images of a future on the largest moon of Jupiter where clones are created to function their entire existence as slaves on a mining outpost. The writing style reminds me of Robert A. Heinlein." - Anakalian Whims Blog Review "Give me a book that captures my interest, my brain, and my heart and I am happy. Spindown is such a book - captivating, thought provoking, and emotionally riveting." - 4 stars, Goodreads Review
