About the Book

In the vibrant, fast-changing American racing scene of the 1960s and 1970s, Mark Donohue redefined what it meant to be a successful driver.Mark Donohue: His Life in Photographs recaptures Donohue's brilliant career through revealing photographs from his childhood, his early amateur-racing days, and his busy and diverse professional life. Many of these pictures were provided by the people who were closest to Donohue: his family, friends, and Penske Racing teammates. The book also offers some of the best work by the top motorsports photographers of the era, who deliver brilliant images of Donohue with a dazzling array of race cars, and intimate shots with his team and fellow drivers. Each photograph is accompanied by detailed, insightful captions and text by Michael Argetsinger, author of the definitive biography, Mark Donohue: Technical Excellence at Speed. Mark's Penske Racing teammates, friends, family, and fellow drivers also offer their recollections and commentary. Together, this combination of words and pictures vividly recounts the life and times of an American racing hero.

About the Author :
As a member of an American racing family, Michael Argetsinger remembers the earliest days of post-war road racing. Growing up in the race organization at Watkins Glen, he graduated from mowing grass at the circuit to become assistant to the press director at the United States Grand Prix, and later, representative in Europe to the race director. His experience also includes working with the Cooper Car Company during the 1966 Formula One Grand Prix season. After two years of service in the U.S. Army, he began his own racing career in 1965 while still in college. He raced in Europe for 10 years and remains an active driver in the SCCA and in vintage racing. He is married and lives in Chicago, Illinois. His critically acclaimed first book, Walt Hansgen: His Life and the History of Post-War American Road Racing, published by David Bull Publishing, received a Gold Medal for biography and was named Best of Books for 2006 at the International Automotive Media Awards. He is also the author of Mark Donohue: Technical Excellence at Speed, published by David Bull Publishing in 2009. Like the Hansgen book, the Donohue biography received a Gold Medal for biography and was named Best of Books for 2009 in the IAMA. It then went on to sweep all the motoring media competition to be named Best of 2009.
