"Este libro es un trozo de historia, de historia tal como yo la he visto." Con estas palabras el periodista estadounidense John Reed inicia su libro Diez días que estremecieron al mundo (1919), una de las más fehacientes crónicas de la Revolución de Octubre, un clásico de la literatura política del siglo XX. El autor, testigo privilegiado de la gesta rusa, captó la esencia de transcendentales acontecimientos, asistió a multitudinarias asambleas, entrevistó a los principales dirigentes e interpretó el estado de ánimo de ese pueblo. Así pudo narrar aquellas jornadas, de primera mano y apegado a la verdad: el frente revolucionario, las acciones de la contrarrevolución, la victoria y el afianzamiento del poder de los soviets. El relato se enriquece al ser precedido de dos capítulos que exponen, de manera breve, los orígenes y las causas de la llegada de los bolcheviques al poder.

About the Author :
John Reed (1887-1920). Nació en Portland, estado de Obregón, en un entorno familiar acomodado que le permitió realizar sus estudios en la prestigiosa universidad de Harvard. Fue colaborador y director de diversos diarios y revistas. Llegó a ser considerado como uno de los periodistas mejor remunerados de su época en los Estados Unidos. Cronista de guerra y de los sucesos protagonizados por el movimiento obrero estadounidense y mundial en general, sufrió prisión en diferentes ocasiones y países. Testigo directo de la Revolución Mexicana, de la guerra de los Balcanes y de la Revolución Rusa, sus obras se han convertido en clásicos imprescindibles para la comprensión de la historia del siglo xx. Fundador del Partido Comunista Laboral de Estados Unidos, a punto de cumplir los treinta años enfermó de tifus y murió en Moscú en 1920. Con su muerte no solo se perdía el mundo uno los cronistas más lúcidos y un estilo periodístico incisivo y veraz; nacía además una leyenda.
