About the Book

A surgeon is found dead in Washington Square Park. Murdered. Who would murder a surgeon in cold blood? Ojo Jenachukwu, an inventor, is framed for the killing. He and his business partner, Derek Cannon, will unravel the shocking scenario that resulted in this murder while doing everything they can to prevent their own. A multitude of clever inventions play pivotal roles uncovering evidence that proves Ojo's innocence while infiltrating the depraved world of NEXUS.CONTRAPTIONS is a techno-medical thriller that tells the story of how these inventors become entangled in a heinous plot involving inter-species genetic engineering research at NEXUS that produces a series of grotesque birth deformities. Motive for the surgeon's murder comes as a gruesome revelation as Ojo and Derek utilize a myriad of their own contraptions to shut down the fiendish research occurring in Sector 13 that has been creating these monstrosities. And to derail the ultimate plan of NEXUS which will have global consequences.CONTRAPTIONS incorporates elements of suspense and ingenuity as the story of these inventors unfolds. Imagine a scenario in which human eggs are harvested without patients' knowledge or consent, fertilized in vitro, and implanted as embryos - in rhesus monkeys! This is precisely what is occurring in the operating room in Sector 13. And NEXUS has a very specific purpose for those embryos. This pair of inventors turned sleuths and their sarcastic robot sidekick will sacrifice everything to halt the wheels of human destruction already set in motion.

Review :
"Five stars for this monumental, entertaining, and riveting debut novel." - TRACY STOPLER, Award-winning author of The Ropes That Bind "Jeffrey Weinzweig's Contraptions offers readers a thrilling journey through a world of espionage, betrayal, and advanced technology. Among the novel's many intriguing elements are the cutting-edge scientific concepts that drive the narrative, blurring the lines between fiction and reality. Weinzweig's use of simulated gravitationless environments in Contraptions is a brilliant example of how fiction can push the boundaries of scientific imagination. Weinzweig masterfully intertwines scientific concepts with a gripping narrative, creating a world that feels both futuristic and eerily possible." - USA TODAY "Conspiracy is the currency of Weinzweig's techno-medical thriller, Contraptions. Weinzweig, who's written several surgical textbooks, keeps the dialogue snappy and the action brisk over the course of his slam-bang fiction debut. Although science and secret codes are the driving forces of the narrative, the author never allows them to overwhelm his novel's themes of how people can be driven by what they can do with technology, even if it's something they shouldn't do. Fans of Michael Crichton and Clive Cussler will feel at home with this fast-paced novel's rogue science." - KIRKUS REVIEWS "Contraptions is an engaging blend of suspense, mystery, and innovation. The narrative depicts a strong, collaborative partnership between two inventors working together to solve a murder while staying alive. A significant twist involving the depraved world of NEXUS adds a layer of both danger and complexity. Contraptions provides a rich foundation for an engrossing and fast-paced thriller that captivates the reader from start to finish." - JOHN WENDELL ADAMS, Award-winning author of the Jack Alexander trilogy "The key element that lifts Contraptions above the standard espionage thriller is its collection of ingenious, mind-bending machines: the Triacontagon, the Metallic Immobilizer, and especially the Thermalyzer, a device that captures and converts thermal waves to create images of past events. First-time novelist, Jeffrey Weinzweig, is also an acclaimed surgeon with more than twenty medical patents to his name and he's successfully merged the worlds of science and fiction by creating an impressive cache of inventions that are more than possible-they're probable." - DAVID CHURCH Author of Thomas Edison and the Purgatory Equation "A murder and the pursuit of justice employs ingenuity large and small in a fast-paced story. And, always, beneath the machines are the beating and often contrary complexities of the human heart, the most confounding contraption of all. Finely written and packed with a cast of fascinating, driven characters, Contraptions is a worthy and entertaining tale." - EDWARD J. DELANEY, Award-winning author of The Acrobat
