About the Book

It's Time The Tale Were Told – A People's History of The Smiths is the story of one of the UK's most influential indie bands, The Smiths. Led by singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr, this book brings together over first-hand accounts from fans, support acts, promoters, fanzine writers, record store owners and the band's lighting designer. With memories of their earliest club shows through to the last ever gig at London's Brixton Academy, and including memories of more than 20 North American dates, this is a portrait of The Smiths painted by the fans. With personal photographs, memorabilia, anecdotes and first-hand accounts of over 150 gigs in total, readers get a front row view of the indie music legends who broke up in 1987 and have since resisted every invitation to reform.
