About the Book

Resonant Space constellates the martial, ritual, and theatrical elements of the Chinese martial arts with the practice of contemporary theatre and dance. This interdisciplinary approach blends the embodied experiences of the author, a lifelong student of the Chinese martial arts and a theatre director and dance dramaturg, with the study of Chinese cultural history. This is a work for scholars and practitioners of the Chinese martial arts, of contemporary dance and theatre, and for scholars of Chinese religion and cultural history.

About the Author :
Daniel Mroz, PhD teaches acting and directing for the stage in the Department of Theatre at the University of Ottawa, where he has been a professor since 2005. He has worked as a dance dramaturg in Canada, directed original theatre for festivals in Canada and the United States, and has taught actors, directors, dancers and choreographers in North America, Great Britain, France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Turkey. His research focuses on the use of Chinese martial arts in contemporary theatre and dance. His first book, The Dancing Word, was published by Brill in 2011. He contributes regularly to the journal Martial Arts Studies, which covers a new research area that he has helped to establish in collaboration with colleagues from around the world.
