About the Book

BASED ON ACTUAL BRUTAL EVENTS. This intensely vivid and powerful narrative unpacks the events experienced by an Indian family during the 1970s, in East London, at a time when merciless racists roam the streets. Canning Town is the epicentre for the battle between the English National Front and foreign immigrants. Ruthless attacks on ethnic minorities, executed by the NF, are frequent and devastating. Racist ideologies are imprinted on many, which spill out to create widespread prejudice. In the middle of all this carnage is a young Indian boy, Jag Singh and his family. To survive this era, Jag and his innocent family have no other option and are forced to become unbreakable.

Review :

Powerful, authentic and important: Very powerful, authentic and important. Brilliantly written, authentic voice. This book really makes you think about the realities of growing up in the 70s as an Asian in Britain. Really tells it like it was. Great piece of work by the author at a time when we really need to understand the impact of racism and bullying in our culture. The best way to change is to understand the lived experiences of those who have suffered, and it's about time a book like this was written. Thank you so much for writing this book.

Harrowing story. Life in East London in the early 1970s was difficult for many people, but that doesn't excuse people from taking out their anger and frustrations on ethnic minorities, particularly by using cowardly tactics and unrelenting violence. A very personal story, but with lessons for everyone to learn from. Looking forward to Part 2.

A Must Read: Touching story, a must read. Perfect for education on racism and discrimination. A great case study and very moving. Well-written, an easy yet emotional read. Jag Singh is inspiring, and I'm looking forward to more from him.

Amazing book! Jag has done an incredible job in making the reader truly understand what it must've been like in those harsh times. Would recommend this to everyone.
