About the Author :
"I could sit here and tell you that I always aspired to be a writer, that it was all that I wanted to do as a child. But I'd be lying. Writing found me at the point of my life that I needed it most, only when I had more to say and better stories to tell." Growing up in Basingstoke in the late 80s/early 90s, Chris' passion belonged to the world of American professional wrestling, pop music and classic British comedies such as Only Fools & Horses and Some Mothers Do `Ave `Em. Rarely did he find that he had the patience or inkling to read a book. But even at a young age, his imagination was growing, even it was in the form of acting out the scenes of his own movies or wrestling shows that existed only in his head and lived through the boxfuls of action figures scattered around his bedroom. His love for music over the years has merely provided the sound- track to what was going on in his own little world. Life took Chris through secondary school (obtaining impressive grades in English, Art & History amongst others), into college and eventually to Staffordshire University where he studied for and achieved a degree in Psychology and Sociology. Along the way he met Marie, the love of his life, when he was only sixteen, and taught himself to play guitar (with the silly hope of one day becoming a rock star). After graduation, Chris left the urban sprawl for a more peaceful country life and moved to Devon. Carrying on from part-time jobs he had held during his college and university years, Chris carved out careers in the retail and logistics fields. Unable to properly settle professionally, he started to believe that there was something missing in his life as his creativity started nibbling away from the inside. Chris and Marie married in 2010, and in 2013 he faced some huge changes. He became a homeowner for the first time and at the end of that summer, he discovered that he was to be a father. To twins, no less. Life suddenly became very real. So much so that he decided that he needed to write things down, to give his children something to read one day, to show what effect their imminent arrival was having on him and to give them an idea of the kind of person he was at that moment. So he decided to write a diary documenting his journey into fatherhood. Chris successfully completed two days' worth of entries before something else started to take hold... stories driven by another side of his psyche that were being driven to the surface. Since his teenage years, Chris has shared an affinity with the darker side of life, at first being drawn to horror films such as Frankenstein, Hellraiser, Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, Friday The 13th and House of 1000 Corpses. In more recent years, he has added to this an appreciation for writers of the macabre, such as H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, James Herbert and Dean Koontz. It was only natural that one day his own imagination would create a world to rival those that he had witnessed and read about. Summoning the courage to finally put pen to paper, Chris started writing a trio of short stories. Unable to give them any real direction by themselves, he put them together and created what would become his debut novel, Acolyte. Acolyte, the first part of `The Wildermoor Apocalypse' trilogy, was first published in the summer of 2015, followed soon after by his first self-published effort House of Courtenay, a trio of short stories which pushed the limits of his dark imagination. The sequel to Acolyte would then follow a few months later in the form of The Sowing Season. Then came another trio of short stories under the banner of Blackgang: The Trickerjack Trail in the summer of 2016. Chris is currently working on the third and final instalment of The Wildermoor Apocalypse, Of Gods & Insects, which he hopes will be completed by early-2017, after which he plans to return to one of his first (yet still unfinished) creations; a sci-fi chiller. He considers being an author, husband and father of twins whilst still holding a full-time job as the perfect life; high-paced, ever- changing, never dull and full of moments that can inspire the next great story.
