About the Book

New York, 1891. Aristocratic English pathologist Finley Jameson and streetwise New York cop Joseph Argenti begin their second adventure together investigating a high society poisoning. But when the daughter of a prominent banker dies in broad daylight from a sudden heart attack, their case takes a curious turn. Jameson and Argenti investigate deeper to see how many apparently accidental deaths amongst the city's rulers might actually have had far more sinister causes. As their investigation intensifies, and the sinister link between the victims emerges, Jameson and Argenti worry that the question isn't now whether there is a serial murderer on the loose, but how many.

About the Author :
John Matthews was 26 when his first novel was published. His books span genres of crime, action, mystery and legal-thriller, though he has also penned two screenplays and a YA novel. His books have been translated into 12 languages with total sales over a million, with his biggest seller, Past Imperfect, included in a top ten all-time best legal thrillers list in The Times. He was one of only two British authors in the list.

Review :
"If you're interested in historical crime, whether fact or fiction, then John Matthews has produced a book with a fantastic conceit. The Jack the Ripper case was never solved. The murders of prostitutes in Victorian London's East End just stopped and many thought that either the Ripper's mania had left him, or he was dead. But what if he left the country? And what if he started again?" - Crime Fiction Lover "Letters From a Murderer was a compelling read with two fabulous lead investigators, who I hope we'll get to see much more of in the future. Matthews tells a great story laced with pathos and unexpected twists, which I just couldn't put down. It was an exciting and gripping narrative, which elaborates on the Jack the Ripper mystery in a novel way. If you enjoy historical crime fiction, this is the book to put on your Christmas wish list this year." - A Fantastical Librarian "A thrilling tale of murder, corruption and trust, Letters From a Murderer is an exciting and captivating read and entirely unputdownable." - Uncorked Thoughts Praise and Reviews for John Matthews' previous novels: "Matthews maintains the suspense - an engrossing odyssey into the seamy side of a world that is so near, yet sometimes seems so far. Compulsive reading." - The Times on Past Imperfect "With Past Imperfect, Matthews shows that he is already a novelist of real accomplishment." - Barry Forshaw on Past Imperfect "Matthews certainly knows how to keep the reader hungry for the next revelation." - Kirkus Reviews on Ascension Day "Ascension Day is like a narcotic, paced with danger, and totally addictive. Impossible to put down. This is what thrillers are meant to be." - Jon Jordan, Crime Spree magazine, on Ascension Day "Goes to the wire - a gripping thriller." - The Scotsman on Ascension Day
