About the Author :
Herman's rise to prominence may have developed rapidly, but the people closest to him would tell you he was never a novice at infusing hope and direction to his family, friends and peers. Aspirations to be great started to materialise; the first of many adventures becoming a successful football player, with Great Britain's Under 15 football team, rubbing shoulders with stars like Manchester United's Paul Scholes. Further on, Herman's creative ability turned to music. The Pioneer of an urban music collective he shared the stage with international superstars like Busta Rhymes, Wu Tang Clan and Redman; gaining him international acclaim. He also appeared on the ever popular Radio 1 with Tim Westwood, Choice FM with 279 and Galaxy FM. He also starred in a music video aired on MTV. Always the entrepreneur, Herman was destined for success but not as he thought. On the verge of signing a contract for a Sony record label he had a change of heart. It might seem crazy but Herman knew this was not what he really wanted: the professional music career, football and dreams of stardom subsided; a new avenue was about to open and it was called Mentoring. Assessing the big picture he accepted the challenge to encourage others and has not looked back. From volunteer Mentor to the Lead Mentor of his city and now a consultant, author, trainer and speaker in high demand, addressing and speaking to Senior Leaders and similar professionals within the Public and Private sector and a revered role model among young people within his vast area of influence. Yet in the midst of all his achievements he retracts to remember the less fortunate and the road he could have taken, by visiting incarcerated offenders both young and old to share his story and why they should never give up. The once self-proclaimed perfectionist has turned the spotlight from himself on to others by using his gifts to successfully equip and develop the current generation. Passionate, and nonpretentious, Herman's life experience makes his story rich with depth, welcomed and honoured by all people, from the young child, to the elders of society - in a nutshell the 'Professional person and People's man'. Herman is passionate about inspiring young people to achieve their best. With over 15 years mentoring experience his work has been regarded as "high quality" by Ofsted and he was awarded a Leading Aspect Award for narrowing the achievement gap in education. As the Lead Mentor of Birmingham, Herman delivered his RAMP (Raising Achievement Mentoring Programme) model in primary and secondary schools. The RAMP project successfully improved student morale, well being, performance and attainment.

Review :
I was captivated by Herman from the first time I heard him speak about his vision of helping children who the education system is failing. This is no pie in the sky social dreaming; Herman's work is based on experience and solid achievement. When he speaks about what's happening to the young people who need help in our education system, you hear a truly authentic account of unnecessary despair and you hear the voice of someone who knows how to make it better. It's hard to overestimate the importance of this work; if it can be made available more widely it will have an almost unimaginable transformational impact on our society. -- Mike Harris founding CEO of First Direct bank and Egg bank plc. CEO of Mercury Communications and Chairman of One to One (later operating as T-Mobile). Herman talks about his life, about his work and about education with a real passion. His commitment to young people and their aspirations is almost tangible; he believes in young peoples' right to aspire to be more than they are, and what's more, has been there himself. Herman's story is inspiring and empowering and I wish him luck with the next part of his journey. -- Eileen Hinds - Independent Education Consultant Herman's story goes to show the rewards we all can reap when we dedicate passion, focus and time to finding out what it is we are called to do. His hard graft, the ways he consistently learns from his varied careers, many potential setbacks and his persistence to fulfill his own full potential through championing every child's right to have a mentor is inspirational. In fact his vision for every child having a mentor has the potential to create the revolution within the education system young people, parents and teachers need today. So Herman's book is a refreshing, honest and human story of how one man's own journey to find the treasure inside became the beacon of possibility and empowerment for young people, their families and our wider society. My question is once you have read Herman's book - what steps can you and will you take to make 'Every Child having a mentor' a reality? -- Anna Sexton, Community developer & activist, accredited Coach and mentor Herman has a great story to tell and he does so with boldness, integrity and transparency that makes the reading of his book so compelling. -- Karl George MBE This is an excellent read whether you are a child, adult, mentor or mentee. -- Leesa Daymond
