About the Book

Darryl Cunningham's latest graphic investigation takes us to the heart of free-world politics and the financial crisis, as he traces the roots of our age of selfishness to the right-wing thinkers of the previous century in three fascinating chapters - Ayn Rand, Supercrash, and The Age of Selfishness. Cunningham draws a fascinating portrait of the New Right and the charismatic Ayn Rand, whose soirees were attended by the young Alan Greenspan. He shows how the US Neo-Cons have hijacked the economic debate and led the way to a world dominated by apparently unstoppable market forces. Cunningham both explains the Supercrash of 2008 and shows us what led up to it. He examines the neurological basis of political thinking, and asks why it is so difficult for us to change our minds - even when faced with powerful evidence that a certain course of action is not working. He takes a fascinating look at research carried out on the psychological differences between liberals and conservatives and suggests how their traits have defined their specific political and economic policies.

Review :
'10 out of 10. I strongly recommend everyone to read it. A version of the current global economic system explained with examples. I congratulate the author / illustrator.' - Papalagininsyleri, Bookstagrammer 'Decodes the ideas with virtuosity...stylish and effective text, supported by simple outlines and flat colours, plays with the rhetoric of graphic symbols.' - L'Humanite 'Distils a vast amount into a rapid-paced, accessible narrative that demystifies the financial and ideological forces behind the crash.' - Sunday Sydney Morning Herald 'A powerful example of the aptitude of the comic art form for cogent and potent polemic.' - Robert Kirby, The Comics Journal 'This graphic history book brought my blood to a high boil... a well-researched, detail-packed book that I'll need to read a few more times to fully digest.' - Carla Sinclair, boingboing 'Supercrash is nothing short of Darryl's masterpiece.' - Bradford Telegraph & Argus 'The graphic content, wrapped in a compellingly shaped narrative, accents an effective summary of a complex series of events.' - School Library Journal 'A truly engaging and informative read. Its art and writing is so clean and it tells a complex, multi-faceted story and tells it in a digestible way that doesn't over-simplify this still very pertinent issue.' - Forward: 8 Best Jewish Novels of 2015 'Moments of brilliance and excellent economic explication.' - Library Journal 'This book is a superb example of how powerful graphic nonfiction can be in taking complex events and making them frighteningly clear.' - Publishers Weekly 'Remarkable, informed, accurate and incisive... At last, there is a single, readable, beautiful book that explains to the generation that came of age after 2008 what happened, why it happened, and why it will happen again.' - Danny Dorling 'Challenges the way we think and resist change, even when the alternative is disaster... Supercrash is a hugely readable, revelatory condemnation and call to arms.' - Paul Gravett, Independent 'It can take other authors whole books to say what Darryl can say in a single illustration.' - Jon Ronson 'A provocative, thoughtful, visual essay that tackles the language of ideas. Supercrash will leave you better informed and, more than that, it will leave you angry.' - Herald, Graphic context: Book of the month 'Supercrash is nothing short of his masterpiece.' - Telegraph and Argus 'There is so much to disagree with and rage about in this book, but the picture it paints of just where we are now is vital and clearer than anything I've found in other media.' - Rob Davis 'Pithy prose and funky art... connects the dots from Ayn Rand to Alan Greenspan to the mess we're in today, tackling tangled subjects with clarity and zing.' - Michael Goodwin 'This is a truly outstanding piece of work... hits new heights in terms of detail and its ability to disseminate such complex information so simply.' - Page 45 ' [An] eminently readable work on an important subject... Darryl's unique comic art takes the reader easily into the heart of complex matters that have important influences on everyone's lives.' - Joe Gordon, Forbidden Planet 'Cunningham's art... has clean lines and a continuity that is often graceful, charming and endearing. He speaks with quiet authority on his subjects.' - Independent 'A graphic novel the world REALLY needs!' - Paul Gravett
