Activity 1 Being an academic success Activity 2 Study skills - getting organised Activity 3 Understanding the rules of the exam game - intro to Blooms Taxonomy Activity 4 Acquiring good habits of mind Activity 5 Academic literacy Activity 6 Review of student progress and targets Students are introduced to key qualities and attributes for academic success. Teachers are provided with materials to make the link to the classroom. Parents are provided with discussion points to make the link at home. Workshop 3 Develop the skills of a high achiever Activity 1 Read for success Activity 2 Write for success Activity 3 Think for success Activity 4 Question analysis skills Activity 5 Coach other learners Activity 6 Review of student progress and targets Students are taught specific study skills that will enhance their academic achievement at KS4 but are also useful for KS5 and beyond. They will use a series of tools to improve their thinking. Teachers develop subject study guides for A/A*. Parents are provided with tasks and resources to help them give support at home. Enquiry 1: The benefits and rewards of academic success - a look at the world of work and careers Activity 1 Introduction to the Thinking Wheel Activities 2-5 Introduction to the enquiry - future careers Activity 6 Presentation Event & Guest speaker(s) Activity 7 Review of student progress and targets Students are introduced to the Thinking Wheel and to the first enquiry - what are the opportunities in the world of work and careers and how are they linked to school? Teachers are also introduced to both the Thinking Wheel and enquiry and are encouraged to make links between their subject and the world of work. Parents are encouraged to make links and share their experiences of the world of work. Enquiry 2: The benefits and rewards of academic success - a look at higher education Activity 1 Consolidate understanding of the Thinking Wheel Activities 2-5 Research a new enquiry - study at higher education level Activity 6 Presentation Event & Guest speaker(s) Activity 7 Review of student progress and targets Students use the thinking wheel to investigate the world of university life. Teachers plan how to incorporate links to HE into lessons. Parents are provided with discussion points and activities linked to HE for use at home. Enquiry 3: So what can I do now to prepare? Activity 1 Independent use of the Thinking Wheel Activities 2-5 Independently research a new enquiry - produce an e-portfolio, CV and personal statement in preparation for a pitch for a work experience placement Activity 6 Presentation Event & Pitch to a Group of Local Employers Activity 7 Review of student progress and targets Students reflect on their own personal skills, strengths qualities and achievements to begin their own e-portfolio, draft a CV and produce a personal statement in order to pitch for a work experience placement or course. Teachers are encouraged to provide opportunities for students to develop personal achievements for their portfolios. Parents are updated and asked to mirror the process of building a personal portfolio and CV at home. Programme Evaluation - evaluation, reflection and next steps Structured guidance in each of the four pathways will help all participants evaluate the programme and plan next steps, at the end of each workshop, each enquiry and also at the end of the whole programme. A celebration 'graduation' event for parents, students and staff at the end of the programme will enable the award of certificates as well as a chance to review and evaluate the programme
