About the Book

Here's a thrilling read at an incredible price for you to download to your iPhone, iPad or e-reader in bite-size chunks. A Cromer Corpse is a mini-series set in the idyllic English countryside, which is also home to a less than idyllic serial killer. What's really neat about this story is that it is available in three episodes, or as a complete edition, so you can buy each part as and when it suits you - as you would a music track for your iPod. When melancholic ex-cop John Bottrell swaps the rugged cliffs of Cornwall (England's most westerly county) for the brooding flatlands of East Anglia (on the other side of the country), he is looking forward to a peaceful retirement. However, fate has other plans. A chance encounter with an old colleague from London's tough Metropolitan Police, Charles Grayling - a hard-drinking curmudgeon - drags Bottrell into a macabre murder mystery. A man's dead body has just been pulled out of the sea; it has one eye missing and the tongue torn out. A pentagram has been carved into the victim's groin. It's a ritual killing and the victim is identified as Montague Druitt, a local businessman and Freemason with an unhealthy interest in the occult. Ritual killings are more in Bottrell's line than Grayling's, and he's co-opted into a world of modern paganism, drug dealing and another murder; this time a 13 year-old girl who also has a pentagram carved on her. The fast-paced narrative moves backwards and forwards in time between now and the heady hippie days of the 1970s. We meet 'Uncle' a powerful warlock who has, to put it mildly, an unnatural relationship with a mystery girl in the grounds of a big old house in the south-western county of Somerset. Who are they and what is their connection to modern day East Anglia, which is on the opposite coast of England? What is the significance of an esoteric American organisation from the 1950s named 'The Golden Dawn Revived'? These are questions Bottrell needs answered before the killer strikes again. Do what thou wilt and harm ye noneA" is the dictum pagans live by. It would appear that, for somebody, only the first half of that statement applies. Kelvin I. Jones brilliantly recreates the essential eeriness of Eastern England during a suffocating heat wave and melds the disciplines of crime writing and horror, leading us trancelike into a world of magic, mystery and murder.

About the Author :
Kelvin I. Jones has been a prolific writer for a quarter of a century. He is one of that rare breed who is equally at home writing poetry, plays and, above all, novels. His keen interest in both crime and folklore comes to the fore in A Cromer Corpse. He has published six books about Sherlock Holmes and the only study on Conan Doyle's interest in spiritualism. Kelvin has written three books on folklore, including Occult Cornwall, as well as two fiction books for children - Odin's Eye and The Dark Entry (the latter co-authored with wife Debbie). A Cromer Corpse is his fourth novel featuring the Cornish detective John Bottrell who possesses psychic abilities. In this latest work the hero moves from Cornwall, the most westerly county of England, to East Anglia, the most easterly region; a path that Kelvin knows only too well, as that was his destiny too. In addition to novels he wrote The Field, a play for BBC Radio in 1995, and has had plays performed at The Barbican Theatre Plymouth and The Birmingham Arts Centre, as well as his own one man show Mr Bottrell's Amazing Tales at the Acorn Theatre Penzance. His poetry includes the moving Omega, which is a collection of poems about the survivors of a nuclear holocaust.
