About the Author :
Kenneth Brown has lived in Belfast since 1969 and has been Professor of Economic and Social History at Queen's University since 1988. Prior to his appointment as Pro-Vice Chancellor in 2001, he had time to publish regularly, working on the history of the Labour Party, industrial relations, business, religion and health, and writing a prize-winning biography of John Burns, the first working-class cabinet minister. In writing this history of the Meccano company he has returned to themes first explored in The British Toy Business (1996).
