About the Book

When eleven year old Mark Renton explores the old house which is shortly to be demolished, little does he realise the danger that he is about to put his entire family in. The house is very old, part of it dates back to the twelfth century and was in use during the time of Richard, the Lionheart and the third crusade. Mark and his friend, Nick, find a message scratched on the wall of a hidden room inside the huge chimney, after which he has strange dreams. In one dream, he watches as King Richard gives the task of finding and returning the two chests that have been stolen by the Knights of the Black Cloth from a holy building on the outskirts of Acre to his most fearless knight, Sir Hugh de Quy. Sir Hugh was born in 1147, so how does Mark meet and actually speak to him? Each chest contains one of the Devil's most lethal demons and they can only be held captive for one thousand years. The problem is that nobody knows just how long the demons have been in the chests. After over eight hundred years, the search is almost over. But will Sir Hugh, the Rentons and their friends from Cambridge University Archaeological team be in time to save the world from The Terror Of The Devil's Chests? One demon confronts the intrepid team inside the Round Church, but Mark calls upon King Richard and his ancient enemy, Saladin, to help. Through the mist that suddenly springs up inside the church, shapes appear. If these shapes have been conjured up by the demon, all is lost. If they have been conjured up by Mark, will Christian and Saracen fight side by side?

About the Author :
Ray Benstead was born and still lives in the heart of Cambridge. After serving for eleven years in the RAF, he joined a security firm and worked in their radio room for nine years. He then went to Girton College for three years. No, not to study, he worked as a kitchen porter! After leaving Girton College he joined Royal Mail as a postman and still works in the large mail centre in Cambridge. Ray is now divorced and lives with his sixteen year old son, Jamie. It was Jamie who first challenged him to write a better story than the 'Goosebumps' book he was reading at the time. Ray had opened his big mouth and stated that he could write better children's fiction. Apart from his main love of writing fiction for children, he also writes short stories on myth, legend, ghosts, horror and revenge. Many of these stories have been published in fan magazines and short story competitions. Further books about the adventures of the Renton family are planned.
