About the Book

This book includes 20 hand and machine styled designs in Rowan's gorgeous fabrics. All projects take just a few hours - ideal for those with little time. This is not cross stitch or samplers - but contemporary embroidery for the modern home. If you like the idea of giving your home an individual touch, but lack the time, the experience or the ideas, then "The Impatient Embroiderer" is just what you need. Jayne Emerson, a young textile designer, has created a range of 20 irresistible hand - and machine-stitched designs, from bold and brilliant machine applique cushions to hand-embroidered delicate little purses, and even simple stitched retro lampshades to cool chair-back covers. All of the designs can be made in just a few hours at the most, and are modern and contemporary. In a wonderful palette of colours, her creative ideas are really easy to make, and come with full step-by-step instructions and illustrations, beautifully and clearly demonstrated with Carrie Hill's watercolours. For those with no previous stitching experience, she includes a fully illustrated Basics section covering - equipment, preparation, basic hand-stitching and hand embroidery, sewing machine basics, including machine stitched seams and embroidery and much more. There is also a Useful Terms page, all the templates and patterns, plus the fabric information. Jayne has used Rowan's range of patchwork fabrics as the basis for her designs, with Coats' sewing and embroidery threads, so sourcing the materials for the project could not be easier.
