About the Book

This publication will help Headteachers and leadership teams use their monitoring in an evaluative way to improve outcomes for pupils. This is a practical publication, which really helps schools get to grips with improving their evaluation of teaching and learning. A key feature of this publication is the inclusion of 38 blank templates which can be personalised to save time with monitoring. These are included in the publication and on an accompanying CD. The book takes a thorough view of the important factors associated with monitoring teaching and evaluating learning. Practical guidance is given on the following issues: conducting quality lesson observations; giving clear feedback; undertaking work scrutiny; using pupil discussion; and, using the PANDA to identify areas for monitoring. An entire section is devoted to the use of evidence trails in monitoring. This way of working can provide a clear focus and an effective use of time. This is a strategy employed by inspection teams during inspection. Use this publication to get your head around it. There are clear links between the content of the book and the new Inspection Framework - with tips on how to use outcomes from monitoring in the SEF.
