About the Author :
Michael Mell's introduction to the stage was at the local Y, where he trod the boards as the fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof. Since then he has worked on Broadway, in regional theaters and television studios as a lighting designer, technical director, stage manager and stagehand. He has been technical director for the American Dance Festival and toured with Trisha Brown Dance Company, the Dance Theater of Harlem and Laura Dean and Dancers. He has worked on a variety of television shows, including One Life to Live (ABC). Michael Mell has taught graduate and undergraduate lighting design and stage technology classes at Sarah Lawrence College, CUNY Queens College and Pace University. In a career now spanning over 30-years he has consulted on performing arts facilities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Switzerland, France and South Korea. In 1999 he established Theater Design Inc, a firm providing theater planning and consulting services for performing arts facilities. Michael Mell is a member of the American Societ y of Theatre Consultants (AS TC), the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).
