About the Author :
Peter Coleman has a family background (he is the third generation) of technical theatre people and started work at The Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton, back in the 1960s. He Learned the theatre trade, specifically lighting, in a theatre which offered the full range of traditional performance works, including 16 week seasons of weekly repertory. In 1970 he joined The Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham as Chief Electrician and in 1973 moved on to become the Chief Electrician and Resident Lighting Designer at The Welsh National Opera in Cardiff. The late 1970s saw a change in emphasis when he became Production Manager at the Swan Theatre in Worcester, a small regional repertory theatre, with a mixture of local community productions. During this time Peter co-founded a lighting hire company, which after several name changes was absorbed into the highly successful Stage Electrics group, where he is now employed as a Project Manager. He now works in all parts of the UK, making specifications and designing systems for a wide range of customers requiring his technical theatre experience. Recent works have included many notable projects: the re-fit of Derby Playhouse, the Hippodrome Theatre and the Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham, and complete new-build works at The Bridge House Theatre, Warwick School and The Assembly Hall Theatre at Solihull School. He also designed a specific lighting system for The Gaiety Theatre in Douglas, Isle of Man. He is currently working on a number of major projects in the Midlands and Scotland.
