About the Book

This is the story of a 'compassionate ministry' that has recently taken off on Raffles, a depressed council estate in the north-west of England. From a children's club run by two local mums, this initiative of the Church of the Nazarene in Carlisle has expanded to include a purpose-built family centre offering education, health care and advice, a converted doubledecker bus that provides mobile leisure facilities for disengaged youth city-wide, a school-based programme for pupils in danger of exclusion and a community church where people can discover God and worship him in a way that suits them. Undergirding it all is the message that in Christ everyone is loved, accepted and needed - a powerful truth that also inspires everyone who works for the Trust.

About the Author :
The Rev Barrie Thomas studied part-time to become an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene while he was still working as the legal and commercial director of the Eddie Stobart Group, a nation-wide haulage business based in Cumbria in the UK. After a physical breakdown in 1998, he left the Group to become the full-time director of the newly established Living Well Trust. In January 2004 he also became the first pastor of the Raffles Community Church. He readily admits that 'from the beginning it was the idea of a worshipping community on Raffles estate that inspired me most.' This is his first published book.

Review :
This is not only a lovely read, it's a story that makes me say: 'Lord, you are wonderful!'--Graham Dow, Bishop of Carlisle
