About the Book

"The Pathway Back is an extraordinary book that has come into existence in a very extrordinary way. A polished, dramatic multiple-voiced narrative, written over a period of six years via 'internal dictation' by a Norfolk builder Dave Kelly who has never written anything for publication before, it has seemingly reached him from seven young and furious American World War Two airmen who died tragically in action. With barely concealed anger, the narrative tells an extraordinary and compelling story of their terrible betrayal by their own American and British allies after training undercover for the most Top Secret Mission of World War II - to assassinate Hitler and his deputy Admiral Doenitz inside Germany. If the mission was truly planned as described, and had been successfully executed, it could have changed history, shortened the War by almost 18 months and saved countless millions of lives. But the story relates that as their B17 bomber nicknamed "Betsy", along with two other planes with all insignia blacked out, prepared to roar into the rain-drenched night towards Germany from an English airfield just outside Norwich in Norfolk on the night of 10 February 1944, the mission was suddenly aborted without warning on orders from the highest level around General Montgomery. A local British gun battery allegedly shot down one of the three planes on strict orders as it banked after take-off and the plane's crew of seven, including top trained snipers, all died in agony in the fiery crash. Sixty-eight years after this alleged tragic event, in 2012, author Dave Kelly, who works in his spare time with many aspects of the paranormal, presents this detailed story in the haunting. moving and often beautifully written words of the seven American crewmen and others. And he quotes them as vehemently demanding justice and personal recognition even after all these years for the allegedly shameful and deliberately concealed circumstances of their unjust deaths. The author and his wife Pauline have obtained substantial corroboration of significant details of the story including names of some of the crewmen, from local USAAF historical records in East Anglia: and they have also visited the United States to research family names and locations given in their story. The Pathway Back of the title refers to the expressed wishes of the seven World War Two crewmen for official acknowledgement and admission of their fate. Perhaps publication of this book will not be the end of the story.
