About the Book

A second volume of the poetry of Twm Morys comprising humorous songs and poems in praise of the inhabitants and the close community life of his home area in Eifionydd, with a clever and humorous introduction by the fictional Professor Neil Sagam.

Review :
2 Llyfr pen taith yw 2, yr ail gyfrol o farddoniaeth gan Twm Morys. 'Blinais ar wib olwynion' meddai'r bardd yng ngherdd gynta'r gyfrol. Does ryfedd iddo flino: Patagonia, India, Awstralia, Japan, y Ffindir, Romania, Groeg a Sbaen ' dyna rai o'r gwledydd y bu yn troedio'u heolydd, yn ôl y gerdd 'Pasport'. Dyma ni yn troi yn ôl am Eifionydd yng nghwmni'r clerwr yn y casgliad hwn felly. Beth a welwn yno? Mae'r ateb yn y cyflwyniad gan yr Athro Neil Sagam: 'y cwbwl y bu'n ei wneud ers tro byd yw rhaffu englynion ac 'awdlau' am bobol a phethau yn ardal Eifionydd'. A da hynny. Cawn ddarllen am farf Dewi sydd fel 'tîn arth o dan ei ên'. Ac am John Williams, Garreg Wen wedyn: 'mae'n siwr bod Môn yn siarad yn ei glust fel rhyw gorn gwlad wrth docio, neu drwsio drws, neu halio dwr, neu hel dail, neu arafu'n yr efail'. Dyma sôn wedyn am 'R.S.', a'r telynor ffraeth o Lanystumdwy yn hen gyfarwydd â gwaith ac â buchedd y bardd hwnnw: 'Bu'r gwaith, a'r bara a'r gwin olaf ym Mhentrefelin, ac mae'r gwynt drwy Gymru i gyd, Manafon, a Môn hefyd'. Man a lle, cynefin: dyma thema gref arall yn '2'. Mae 'Darllen y Map yn Iawn' yn gerdd dda i ysgrifennu ar glawr Road-Atlas yr AA: nid am yr A5 y cewch sôn yn hon ond am 'hen ffermydd a thai teras bach eich tylwyth hyd y nawfed ach'. Mae Cymreictod dihafal yn perthyn i waith Twm Morys. Ac nid Cymreictod y pethau chwaith. Hen Gymreictod sydd yn llenwi pob pennill o eiddo'r cywyddwr. Mae hunan-ddireidi yn rhan ohono: 'Twm Morys eto, Meuryn: mae o'n hwyr, mi wn i hyn. Hir ei daith adre' i'w dy: hwyr ei gynnig ar ganu'. Mae'n mabwysiadau rhai o arferion yr hen gywyddwyr a beirdd yr uchelwyr, y marwnad ffug, er enghraifft: 'Hel eiddew at fy nghladdu mae'r holl ymgymerwyr hy. Ond nid heddiw y mae'r diwedd! Ym mhen y lôn mae 'na wledd'. Mae yn y gyfrol hon lond crochan o gynghanedd yn ffrwtian ar y tân: ewch i aelwyd y prifardd - fe gewch dorri syched a dianc rhag dwndwr y byd mawr. Cyfnewidfa Lên Cymru/Wales Literature Exchange Ac yntau’n adnabyddus am ei grwydriadau barddol byd-eang, mae Twm Morys wedi dewis ei filltir sgwâr yn Eifionydd a Phen Llŷn fel prif ganolbwynt ei sylw ar gyfer ei ail gyfrol. Wedi ei gwreiddio yn yr un fan, y mae’r farddoniaeth yn sicr yn treiddio’n ddwfn i brofiadau dynol, wrth i’r rheiny gael eu hadlewyrchu drwy faterion bro. Ceir cywair mwy difrifol i nifer o’r cerddi, felly, megis ambell i farwnad i gydnabod ac i gymeriadau’r ardal. Mae’n fai. Ond yma ni fydd. Ifan Ty’n Llan sy’n llonydd. (‘I Ifan Gwyn’) Ond rhag ofn bod neb yn meddwl bod Twm yn dechrau dwysáu o setlo i lawr, ac na cheir yma mo’r smaldod a’r ysgafnder sydd mor nodweddiadol o’i gerddi, dylwn bwysleisio bod yma ddigon o sgwarnogod a chyfoeth o’r ffraethineb arferol, a hwnnw os rhywbeth yn sicrach fyth ei annel ac yn fwy trawiadol ei effaith nag o’r blaen. Dyna i chi un o gerddi arobryn Stomp Tyddewi, er enghraifft, sef ‘Beuno’, lle mae hanes y sant yn arswydo o glywed llais Saesneg yn ei gartref yn Aber-riw yn cael mynegiant modern a digon diflewyn-ar-dafod. Ceir yma ddigon o gerddi chwareus i blesio ffans yr agwedd hon ar waith y bardd. Ond i mi, gogoniant y gyfrol hon yw’r croywder a’r uniongyrchedd a geir mewn cerddi fel ‘Darllen y Map yn Iawn’. Ni wna dyfyniad o’r gerdd hon gyfiawnder â’i champ. Rhaid ei darllen ar ei hyd. Mae’n gerdd wirioneddol ragorol, gyda gweledigaeth unigryw a gwreiddiol a mynegiant hynod effeithiol. Ceir yr un rhinweddau yn y rhan fwyaf o gerddi’r gyfrol. Dyma fardd sy’n feistr ar ei grefft, yn llawn mor gyfforddus ym myd y canu caeth ag ydyw gyda cherddi rhydd neu delynegion. Nid oes yma’r un gerdd aflwyddiannus, ac mae ’na amryw byd o rai gwych iawn. Cefais flas anghyffredin ar y gyfrol hon. Arwyddocad teitl y gyfrol, 2, yw nid yn unig mai ail gyfrol y bardd ydyw, yn dilyn llwyddiant Ofn fy Het, ond hefyd ei fod yn dathlu cariad y bardd at Sioned Wyn, y cyflwynir y llyfr iddi. Mae ’na berygl ar bob llaw i fardd. Gall teithio wneud rhywun yn arwynebol, gall llonyddwch ei wneud yn gul. Yn y gyfrol hon mae Twm Morys wedi dangos ei fod yn gallu osgoi peryglon symudolrwydd a chofleidio rhinweddau sefydlogrwydd. Yr her nawr fydd osgoi peryglon y cyflwr hwnnw. Does dim llonydd i'w gael, hyd yn oed yn Llanystumdwy. Edrychwn ymlaen yn eiddgar at y gyfrol nesaf – 3, efallai.
