About the Book

Question: What do you get when you take a loyal football fan whose motto is "Sunderland Till I Die, I Know I Am, I'm Sure I Am...", and you throw in an unhealthy obsession with the Internet, running an online fanzine in the hope of becoming a dot-com millionaire, divorce, depression, redundancy, intimidation, paranoia, jealousy, promotion, relegation, and a revised motto of "Sunderland Till I Die, I Know I Am, Well I Think I Am..."? Answer: This book! Starting from Sunderland's relegation in 1997 to Sunderland's devestating relegation in 2003, "Why Do I Do It", indeed begs the question of "why" when it comes to supporting Sunderland AFC, and the rollercoaster ride of highs and lows it can bring (and more than often, too many lows). "Why Do I Do It", also asks why I persist in running a web site - Ready To Go (RTG) www readytogo.net - when my vision/dream/desire/delusion is to become a dot com millionaire, yet for all the success of the web site brings in terms of visitors, revenue remains oh so low. And why is so much abuse is thrown at me and my colleagues albeit electronically, from supporters who only agree to disagree with any editorial comments that are made? "Why Do I Do It" also asks why, in terms of life, as I unveil some rather personal issues, yet hopefully I've managed to put them across in an ironic and humourous manner, though at times very dark, and sinister-ish! Either way it is a fascinating insight and one in which you are invited to read, whether or not you support Sunderland AFC, or, even if you don't like football, or the Internet, this book will hopefully keep you entertained.

About the Author :
P D Han runs www readytogo.net, fan site of Sunderland AFC, and he lives (where else) in Sunderland

Review :
It will engage any Sunderland fan who has experienced the misery of after-match defeat while walking over Wearmouth Bridge in the persistent rain. And it will amuse any true fan who has experienced the delight of having thrashed Newcastle United. Written in the language of the terraces, the book pulls few punches and goes for the jugular more than once." Sunderland Echo "The gritty and honest view of a Sunderland supporter living in cyberspace. For anyone who's ever posted anything on a fans' messageboard - THIS BOOK IS A MUST!" Simon Crabtree : Sunderland Match Day Commentator, Metro Radio. "Why Do I Do It? - Radical, Truthful, Graphic, Sad, Malevolent, Beguiling? You decide and catch its wry, ironic, often controversial and very personal thoughts which portray premier passions of fever pitch proportions." Steve Dean Sec. Jarrow Branch SAFCSA - Sunderland Association Football Club Supporters Association. "By far the best thing about this book is the way the author tears into people with his ferocious, irate, boy-do-I-want-to-kick-someone's-head-in way, and it sets it apart from most of the other SAFC books on the shelves at the minute. " A Love Supreme. "Football fanaticism brought up to date via the web - a must read for real football fans." Roy Logan Belfast SAFCSA. "A personal account of the highs and lows, strangeness and absurdity of how work and family can get in the way of surfing the internet and supporting the most passionate, infuriating, tantalising and baffling football club on this odd little planet." Jim Adamson, the Cockney Mackem. "Its not just supporting Sunderland that drives you mad - helping supporters express their views does too!" Tracey Richardson, Milton Keynes Mackem
