About the Book

Through the mythical tale of the young scholar Chu Shui Hu, and in his lyrical calligraphic art, "Ancient Wisdom" is a gift book for all who yearn for deeper understanding. Hu's tale begins when he is sent into the mountains of Zhong Nan, an ancient allegorical wilderness of classic Chinese stories. His patron, Lord Xi Er Gong, has challenged him to abandon his headstrong ways and live the ascetic monastic life of the calligrapher, poet and scholar. He is ordered to master this most demanding artistic discipline and compose scrolls that will bring accolades to the House of Xi Er Gong. It is the highest honor to be chosen for this role. But Hu, a brilliant graduate of the Imperial University, has aspirations of his own. When he rebels, Xi admonishes him: "You have yet to learn the great secret of life. Without it, the doors to heaven remain eternally sealed." Thus begins Hu's struggle to gain wisdom and unlock the power of the secret Chi. Set in the Tang Dynasty, the grand era of poetry, art and enlightenment, a time when Buddhism transformed Chinese thought, Hu's inner journey and his more than 60 calligraphic paintings offer gems of Chinese philosophy with humour and perception.

About the Author :
PZbar is the pseudonym of Philip Z. Trupp, who has spent decades exploring the world, studying ancient languages, art, poetry, natural history, and Chinese calligraphy. Though he has published many books on a wide range of topics, he believes an "established" writing persona shadows the reader's imagination and artificially places the author on a self-limiting path. PZbar is the name he has chosen for this work.
