About the Book

With more than 700 colour and black and white photographs and illustrations, REFLECTIONS records the highs and lows of Australia over the past 150 years. Published to coincide with the 150th birthday celebrations of The Age newspaper, the book is a unique visual record, superbly packaged with a slip case. Since 1854 The Age has been Australia's newspaper of record, reflecting the changing eras of Australia. Featuring extracts and articles alongside a stunning collection of photographs and illustrations from the newspaper's archive, REFLECTIONS records the highs and lows of Australian politics, sport, fashion, music and culture. The book includes 10 essays by some of the best journalists from The Age- Michael Gordon on politics, Gary Tippet on crime, Michael Shmith on culture, Shaun Carney on music, Janice Breen Burns on fashion, Peter Ellingsen on war. This book is their work- a visual record of a nation, city, its people and the great moments of the past 150 years. Acclaimed historian Geoffrey Blainey has written a potted history of Australia, illustrated with incredible pictures, paintings and illustrations showing how Australia developed over 150 years.
