About the Book

This guide is concerned with the interconnection of Message Handling Systems within the framework of Open Systems Interconnection. It gives an introduction to the ISO/IEC standard IS 10021 and the CCITT X400 series. After describing the scope, terminology and models of MHS systems the guide moves on to a technical description of the services and protocols of MHS for those who wish to become more familiar with the techniques used in the standards. Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) is a term adopted by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) to describe its work on the development of manufacturer independent standards for interconnecting computer equipment.
