About the Book

This book presents a general elastic and elastoplastic analysis method for the treatment of two- and three-dimensional contact problems between two deformable bodies undergoing small displacements with and without friction. The author's approach uses the Boundary Element Method (BEM) and Mathematical Programming (MP). This is applied to the contacting bodies pressed together by a normal force which is sufficient to expand the size of the contact area, mainly through plastic deformation, acted on subsequently by a tangential force less than that necessary to cause overall sliding. The formulated method described in this book is straightforward and applicable to practical engineering problems.

Table of Contents:
Chapter 1: Introduction The contact problem; A survey of analytical solutions to the contact problem; A survey of computational and regularizational techniques to the contact problem; A survey of numerical discretization methods applied to the contact problem Chapter 2: Three-dimensional elastic frictional contact analysis - Part 1: Theory Introduction; Contact boundary conditions between two bodies; Elastoplastic analogy for a model of contact boundary conditions; Penalty complementarity contact boundary conditions; Boundary element formulation for elastic frictional contact problems; Linear complementarity formulation of elastic frictional contact Chapter 3: Three-dimensional elastic frictional contact analysis - Part 2: Applications Introduction; Contact between a rigid cylinder and an elastic foundation; Contact between an elastic cylinder and a rigid foundation; Contact between a cylinder (circular disk) and a rectangular plate (foundation); Contact between an elastic punch and an elastic foundation (combined normal and tangential loading); Contact between two elastic cylinders; Contact between an elastic flat punch and an elastic flat foundation in 2D; Contact between an elastic flat punch and an elastic flat foundation in 3D Chapter 4: Three-dimensional elastoplastic frictional contact analysis - Part 1: Theory Introduction; Incremental description of penalty complementarity contact boundary conditions; Elastoplastic constitutive equations; General form of the plastic yield matrix; Boundary element formulation for elastoplastic frictional contact problems; Unified linear complementarity formulation of elastoplastic frictional contact problems Chapter 5: Three-dimensional elastoplastic frictional contact analysis - Part 2: Applications Introduction; Contact between an elastoplastic cylinder and a rigid foundation; Contact between two elastoplastic cylinders (combined normal and tangential loading); Contact between a flat punch and an elastoplastic flat foundation in 2D; Contact between a flat punch and an elastoplastic flat foundation in 3D Chapter 6: Conclusions
