About the Book

Computers are now being used in every facet of railway activity from initial feasibility studies to the actual construction of the track and rolling stock, and the ultimate operation of the network. Following the success of the five previous international conferences on Computer Aided Design, Manufacture and Operation in the Railway and other Advanced Mass Transit Systems, the sixth meeting in the series was convened in Lisbon, Portugal in September 1998. Its purpose was to report on progress in the use of computer-based techniques within the railway industry and other advanced passenger and freight transit systems and to promote a general awareness of these. Describing how planners, designers, manufacturers and operators can benefit from the latest developments in this area of information technology this book contains the proceedings of the sixth conference.
