About the Book

Drawing on the writings of the great philosophers, You Kant Make it Up sends the reader on thrilling, non-stop tour of their most outrageous and counter-intuitive conclusions. Harry Potter is real. Matter doesn't exist. Dan Brown is better than Shakespeare. All these statements stem from philosophy's greatest minds, from Plato to Nietzsche. What were they thinking? Overflowing with compelling arguments for the downright strange - many of which are hugely influential today - popular philosopher Gary Hayden shows that just because something is odd, doesn't mean that someone hasn't argued for it. Spanning ethics, logic, politics, sex and religion, this unconventional introduction to philosophy will challenge your assumptions, expand your horizons, infuriate, entertain and amuse you.

About the Author :
Gary Hayden is a journalist and popular philosopher. He has a master’s degree in philosophy and has written for The Times Educational Supplement, Scotsman, Church Times, and a selection of magazines. He is the author of This Book Does Not Exist: Adventures in the Paradoxical. He lives in the UK.

Review :
"A well-put-together collection of the most intriguing philosophical thoughts and arguments from Socrates to the present day... Provocative and inviting." The Good Book Guide One gets hte idea that most philosophers are from a time way back in history, but philosophy goes on relentlessly today. We tend to assume that Socrates, Nietzsche, Plato, Kant and others had some sort of insight into life's mysteries, and thus wrote the answers up for others to blindly follow. Logic is a word that often creeps into philosophy, and the logic shown in this book is often laughably missing. The theories that are reached by these famous people are sometimes outrageously misconceived, but are taken almost as gospel by acolytes and students. As I read I somehow became angry at the sheer lunacy of the contents. I have been raised to think for myself, whilst reading for education, but, if reading this sort of 'logic' is educational, then I may well be a million light years from truth and factual enlightenment. This book has some warped ideas from the 'masters', highlighted here by the author, and I thank him fr the compilation. It is well put together but it has served to perhaps prove the probably supidity of searching for enlightenment following these people. I have all the time in the world for debate and philosophical discussion, but on reading this book, I may well give it a miss in the future as it all means nothing in the end but disagreement and theorising.
