About the Book

British and Dutch experts in the drug dependency field explore the bases of bilateral co-operation in solving the problems of this difficult area. Both countries are facing a changing political situation in which closer regional European co-operation is required. There is a growing recognition that the market for drugs of dependency has changed in its organization. No longer are there multiple, laissez-faire, single-country markets for such drugs. Instead the drug markets within the separate European countries have become organized at a regional level so that it is now possible to talk of a single European drug market. With the relaxing of borders in 1992 between the countries of the European Community, there is a growing need to develop co-ordinated and harmonized European policies. This review of this subject provides, therefore, an opportunity for developing bilateral understanding - a basic precondition for the emergence of a harmonized European approach.
