About the Book

Power electronics is a branch of electrical engineering dealing with conversion and control of electric power using semiconductor power switches. This book, written by an international panel of more than 40 experts, provides an overview of modern power electronic converters and systems, and their applications. Topics covered include semiconductor power switches, multilevel, multi-input, modular, matrix, soft-switching, and Z-source converters, switching power supplies, and smart power electronic modules. Applications discussed encompass permanent magnet synchronous motor and induction motor drives, wind, photovoltaic, and automotive energy systems, shipboard power systems, the power grid, distributed generation and microgrids, uninterruptable power supplies, and wireless power transfer. Advanced control of power electronic systems is also examined. The book is essential reading for researchers and students working in power electronics, and for practising engineers specialising in the development and application of power electronic converters and systems.

About the Author :
Andrzej M. Trzynadlowski PhD, is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno. He has published extensively in the areas of power electronics and electric drives. He is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of the Industrial Power Converters Committee and Industrial Drives Committee of the IEEE Industry Applications Society, and an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. His popular textbook Introduction to Modern Power Electronics is now in its third edition.

Review :

'Power Electronic Converters and Systems: Frontiers and applications explores and suggests new trends and frontiers in the interdisciplinary field of power electronics systems (PES). The book includes contributions from an international panel of forty-four PES experts covering subjects, such as, SiC devices, multilevel and matrix converters (MC), smart power electronic modules, Zero Voltage and Zero Current Switching (ZVS and ZCS), switching power supplies, EVs, sliding mode and intelligent direct torque control (DTC) of IM drives, sliding mode observers and Model based Predictive Control (MPC) [6]-[7]-[8] of PMSM drives and wind turbines (WTs).'

'The book is also matchless in performing detailed study of contactless power (WPT) and in Sequence-Based Control (SBC), together with the implementation of high frequency solid-state power transformer (SST) using 3 level neutral point clamped multilevel converters built with 15kV SiC IGBTs.'
