About the Book

High risk, adrenaline rushes, extreme weather, knife-edge decisions, rivalries and challenges in the toughest environment are all in a day's work for exceptional Irish sailor, Damian Foxall. From a remote bay in Kerry to the Southern Ocean, Damian has raced around the world eight times. Ocean Fever traces his early years as a restless teenager and description of his successes and failures on many teams lifts the lid on this toughest of sports. Foxall has raced with the world's best, such as Alan Gautier, Steve Fossett and Tracy Edwards. In 2008 he won the Barcelona World Race with Jean Pierre Dick and sailed with Ireland's Green Dragon team in the 2009 Volvo Ocean Race. He recounts how professional sailing has evolved to push human performance ever further to the mythical edge. Damian's positive attitude, stamina and courage shine through as he shows what takes place in the white heat of competition. While he has accomplished much, finding proud moments and tragedy, Foxall's journey still has a distance to go. Conceived as a retirement project, so much has happened already this book of 'tales from the ocean' has much to tell.

About the Author :
Damian Foxall from Kerry spent his childhood in idyllic Derrynane where the ocean was part of life. His journey to professional yacht racing began when he left school early and worked from London to the Caribbean to his first job on boats. His career covers virtually every major trans-oceanic competition, and a record time set the late Steve Fossett. With co-skipper Jean-Pierre Dick, he won the Barcelona World Race in 2008 and was watch-leader on Ireland's Green Dragon team in the Volvo Ocean Race. He has been signed to the French Groupama racing team as watch-leader. David Branigan is a marine photographer-journalist based in Dublin with a passion for the ocean, boats and boat people. Official photographer for the Volvo Ocean Race on five occasions, he writes for The Irish Times, Irish Examiner and Irish Independent. A lifeboat volunteer, his ambition is to learn how to trim a sail.
