About the Book

Inclusion in education is a process of enabling all children to learn and participate effectively within mainstream school systems, without segregation. It is about shifting the focus from altering disabled people to fit into society to transforming society, and the world, by changing attitudes, removing barriers and providing the right support. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities requires the development of an inclusive education system for all. This revised and expanded second edition of Implementing Inclusive Education examines the adoption of the Convention and provides examples, both through illustrated case studies and on the accompanying DVDs, of how inclusive education systems for all children have been established in pockets throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. The message is clear: it can be done. The task is now to implement inclusive education worldwide.

Review :
'The lessons learned from nations and provinces as they framed their policies is particularly helpful to understanding how to develop policies that are in line with existing resources and political environments. Although the challenge of inclusive education is daunting, this resource is a helpful guide to those trying to put right the wrongs of the past.' - International Review of Education, Volume 56, Number 1, February, 2010. 'The two accompanying DVDs provide powerful illustrations of inclusive education in action.' - British Journal of Special Education, Volume 36, No 2, June 2009. 'This book makes a significant contribution to the literature of inclusive education.' - British Journal of Educational Technology, Vol 41 No 2 2010. 'This book is a must read for those who want to do more than just talk about inclusion.' - Success & Ability (India's Cross-disability magazine), October-December 2009.
