About the Book

A comprehensive biography of the renowned Welsh romantic poet R. Williams Parry. He won the chair at the 1910 National Eisteddfod in Colwyn Bay, with his ode to 'Summer' and is regarded as one of the giants of Welsh literature. Some of his poems continue to be studied on Welsh courses in schools, colleges and universities.

Review :
Campwaith arall o law prif gofiannydd Cymru, meddair Athro Peredur Lynch ar glawr y gyfrol hon, ac ni allaf ond ategu ei eiriau. Bellach mae Alan (ac rwyf am ei alw felly, gan mai Kate a Bob yw teitlau ei ddau hunangofiant diweddaraf) yn Athro yn Academi Hywel Teifi ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe anrhydedd na chawsai R. Williams Parry ddim byd tebyg iddi ym Mangor. Maer rhod wedi troi, a diolch byth am hynny. O graffu ar y mynegai ir gyfrol hon, dau gyfeiriad cwta yn unig at John Gwilym Jones a geir er mai ef oedd yn bennaf cyfrifol am symud pwyslais yr adrannau Cymraeg oddi wrth ieitheg at feirniadaeth, ac er mai R. Williams Parry oedd ei hoff fardd. Trueni na fyddai yma lyfryddiaeth, ond y tebyg yw nad oedd Alan am arddel popeth a ysgrifennwyd am wrthrych ei gofiant, ac yn sicr am ei farddoniaeth. Diau mair penodau ar Helynt y Brifysgol 19291935 a Helynt yr Ysgol Fomio 19361945 fydd o ddiddordeb pennaf ir rhan fwyaf o ddarllenwyr, er bod rhaid darllen y gyfrol oi chwr, oherwydd dim ond felly y ceir gweld y bardd ai waith yn eu cyfanrwydd. Fe wyddair rhan fwyaf ohonom am amlinelliad yr hanesion hyn y Streic Farddoni, y cyfeiriadau milain at Syr Ifor Williams a Henry Lewis yn rhai or cerddi dyma roi cig am yr esgyrn, ac maer gyfrol drwyddi draw yn dangos gallu Alan i droi pob carreg wrth chwilio am dystiolaeth i gadarnhau ei stori. Nid y lleiaf o gymwynasaur gyfrol hon yw dadansoddiad Alan o gerddi Williams Parry, ar modd y maen olrhain rhai or newidiadau a wnaed ir cerddi cyn rhoi iddynt ffurf derfynol. Diddorol yw darllen hanes cyhoeddi Cerddir Gaeaf ar ymateb cymysg a gafwyd ir gyfrol honno pan ddaeth. Daw R. Williams Parry yn fyw iawn in meddyliau yn y gyfrol orchestol hon ei swildod, ei ansicrwydd, eto ei ddewrder ar bapur, ei hiwmor tawel ymysg gwerinwyr o gyffelyb fryd, ai ymdeimlad o israddoldeb. Ond trwyr cwbwl, y bardd sydd ar flaen y llwyfan, ai gynnyrch llenyddol sydd yn cael y sylw haeddiannol. John Rowlands Gellir defnyddio'r adolygiad hwn at bwrpas hybu, ond gofynnir i chi gynnwys y gydnabyddiaeth ganlynol: Adolygiad oddi ar www.gwales.com, trwy ganiatd Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru.
